Hey, so I'm really excited about this idea I just had. I'm working on extracting the images from all the sprite files so I can work on my Candyfluff breed and I just had this idea.
If you want to make a breed of your own I'll have the sprite files packaged up in a zip file containing the .bmps of the sprites. It will save you hours so you don't have to go through every single file and extract the images into a paint program. So! If you want to make a breed but would rather save a ton of time, ask me and I'll email you (PM me your email) the zip file with the base breed you want to use for your own breed. And if someone asks for the images go ahead and send it to them too!
I hope this is really helpful because I've found that this part is one of the longest parts of the process in breedmaking.

There's an easy way to extract frames from a sprite file so it doesn't take hours: open a sprite file in Sprite Builder, choose Cut -> Automatic Uncut to Clipboard, and then paste into a graphics program and save. It will transfer all of the frames simultaneously.
Or if you want them as separate BMP's, you can just pick File -> Export All.

Will this be C2 only or are you planning on doing it with C3/DS as well? |

I'm planning to do it with all three games (if people want C1).
@Ghosthande: That's what I'm doing, and it still takes a long time to do because I'm also removing the black so other people can just start editing sprites in the bitmap I'll distribute. |

But why would you want to remove the black? The black tells the sprite where transparency would be... and BMP's don't have transparency of their own.

When editing the sprites for a new breed people are going to want the black removed so it's easier to move parts around and paint on them. It's how I make breeds, do you do it differently? You'd later put the black back in when you go to file the images back in their sprite files. |

Sort of, yes. I use one sheet that is exactly the way I exported it, and a second sheet (on another layer but in the same file) that has no background as you described. The latter is the one I actually edit. When I'm done I just move the edited sprites so that they overlap the originals, flatten the layers into one, and copy-paste the whole sheet back into SpriteBuilder. Having the original sheet on hand ensures that the ATTs from the breed you started with will work just as well for the new one, because the sprites are in the exact same position.
What confused me was that if you remove the black, but save the sprite as a BMP, the background of a BMP can't be transparent. So it seems like you'll still have a background color you have to delete before working with the sprite, except it would be one that isn't necessarily unused in the game (eg. white would conflict with Norn eyes and some breeds' hair and body parts).

That's a real time-saver, I hadn't thought of that! I was just going to edit my new sprites on the sheet itself, but your way sounds better.
And yeah, I just had a moment there. A lot of times I unwittingly do things the hard way first before figuring out there's a smarter way to do it. XP I'm going to be making the files .png images with actual transparent backgrounds next. ![[ndoh] [ndoh]](/images/smilies/emot_doh.gif) |
