If you are wondering why I didn't post this in the ideas pool, its because I thought this might be rather game-changing so it could use it's own thread.
This idea is intended towards adding more obstacles to creatures in the form of "Random events" which would range from hazardous to beneficial.
I'm not thinking of any individual game in the series because this could be applied to any of them.
Basically how it would work is that after a long-ish interval of time a certain event would happen either worldwide or only at a certain part of the world which could be a natural disaster, for example.
It would be good if there were natural disasters that not only provided a temporary threat, but gradually changed the world over time. However, I don't know how much of this the game could cope with, particularly graphically. Also, creatures probably aren't smart enough to stay away from the disaster area, and it would just end up wiping out the population every time.
They heat up the environment, cause damage upon explosion and maybe even destroy plants n stuff when they impact.
They even could convert room types. Converting soil into air, making it permanently infertile.
Though that might be caused by other events either, e.g. pollution when you use too many gadgets and devices.

I don't know anything about scripting agents and metarooms, but what if such a random event happened that converted a current room in the game to look and act differently? Like a tidal wave in an area by water/ocean that breaks up the land it hits so norns can no longer walk over that area, and over time the "washed away" land regains its solidity so norns can walk on it again. Something like that, maybe? Again, I don't know anything about scripting so I'm sorry if that's way too much to think about and/or impossible to create.
Room types themselves are of clear types. Salty water, normal water, air, boggy soil, fertile soil and so on. Soil for example got a whole bunch of stages, but regardless which type of room you use, it's either water or air to norns.
On the other hands... you could simulate it with agents I guess which partially inject air or not.
