Development Forum Debating on making new C3/DS Ettin breed    Emzie      6/3/2013 I wanted to make this a surprise for the next CCSF, but I have a burning question and I don't want to step on any toes. I'd also need some help to finish this, and it probably won't happen if I can't find someone to do genetics/coding (I'm mainly a spriter). For years I wanted to make the Cookie Ettins, but on the wiki I see someone who worked for CLabs came up with the idea and other users have started the project and never finished. I just wanted to be sure that I would not get in any trouble for taking this idea and running with it, you know with copyrights and such. I do fear falling flat on the expectations of this breed since it's been taunting us for years with its cuteness. I'm not exactly a master at sprites, but I do alright with Photoshop and I think I could make something decent by editing existing sprites. I may see what I can come up with a post a preview soon. And on a side note, I'm sure with me wanting to take on a new breed project that questions about the Hamster Norns will come up. I've honestly switched computers 3 times since I lasted worked on them and have long lost everything that had anything to do with them. If someone else wants to make them, that's fine with me. I've lost all interest, and I think we already have a lot of unique Norn breeds and we could use some more Ettins. So, in summary: Am I taking something copyrighted and/or claimed by someone else? If not, is anyone willing to help me on this project?   Wee Scrivener Trell     6/3/2013 I think the Cookie Ettin idea has been tossed around for a while now. I've been dabbling myself, mainly in genetics and vague concepts though. Might be fun to see everyone's take on it. Plus, it's not like you'd be using Mall breed sprites or anything like that, just the concept; and all third-party Creatures add-ons do that to some degree. I have an okay understanding of C3/DS genetics and I'm happy to help out with checking through the genome and testing the breed as you update it. I've been inactive for a while so I'm not too aware of newer breeds or if anyone has "claimed" slots for a work in progress. Not sure, the link was dead) Aqua Bruin Norns So that slot looks pretty hopeful!   Patient Pirate ylukyun Manager   6/5/2013 Yeah the Glacier Ettins. I didn't realize Aqua Bruin Norns were in there. Even then, it's not a full breed, and a Norn breed in an Ettin slot too, so I'd say Ettin Slot X is fair game.   Sanely Insane RisenAngel Manager     6/5/2013 The Aqua Bruin Norns were taken down very shortly after they were released, if I remember correctly (probably because they involved stolen sprites), so why we're worrying about them is beyond me. I think people were worrying about the Aqua Bruins because they're still listed on Mummy's Creatures. Not great, but getting somewhere Tried to screenshot my ettin in a "normal" pose but she wanted to be silly. I said ok whatever sure XD   Bifrost   6/6/2013 That's really cute. One tip is to try to include a little of the shading on the grey spots, belly and feet, to give it a more cohesive depth. But you're on a really good way with this. I have a problem though: I like to see the sprites in game as I'm working on them and I can't get the genetics kit to inject an egg into my game. I tried the Egg Maker agent as well and it just autokills when I try to make it lay an egg. Any suggestions? I suppose I could relearn CAOS to make a temporary egg agent if all else fails.   KittyTikara     6/6/2013 I've always used the Eggernator to inject genomes. The Mobula Ray - My Creatures blog   Emzie   6/6/2013 Ah ok, I'l give that a shot. I was thinking the Eggernator could inject genomes but I've never used it for that before so I wasn't sure. EDIT: So I've been trying the Eggernator and it keeps saying "Valid genome not specified". I've tried typing the file name with and without the extension and I have it in both C3 and DS genetics folders. I feel like I'm probably doing something really dumb, but I've never used the Eggernator for this before!   Patient Pirate ylukyun Manager   6/7/2013 Do you have Exodus? That can cause problems. Also, are you typing in the .gen extension?   Emzie   6/7/2013 Yeah I have the GoG Exodus, and I tried with and without .gen on the end.   KittyTikara     6/7/2013 Hmm, I've used it without the .gen on the end and it's always worked for me. Do you have the remastered patch installed and are your catalogue files going in the right place? Past that I have no idea what would make the eggernator not work. The Mobula Ray - My Creatures blog   Emzie   6/10/2013 Thanks KittyTikara, that told me that my catalogue files aren't going to the right place :/ I'm guessing it has to do with Windows 7, but I'll try reinstalling in My Documents later to see if that fixes it. As soon as I can get my work-in-progress to show up in game, I'll post some screenshots. I'll continue picking away at the sprites in the meantime.   For Science!
