George Jones, a country music icon, passed away yesterday at the age of 81.
Jones was also known by the appellations No Show Jones and The Possum for his alcoholism, womanizing, violent tirades, and habit of missing performances.
Despite his self destructive behavior and not showing up for engagements, Jone's popularity skyrocketed due to the release of singles such as He Stopped loving Her Today and They Call Me The Fireman..
During his long career, Jones released numerous singles, fourteen of which would go on to become number one hits. He also earned many honors including Male Vocalist of the Year five years running, Top Vocal Duo for his collaborations with other artists, and Living legend.
So long George, and thanks for the laughs, the tears, and all the rest. Here's hoping in heaven there is beer, and that no one hides the keys to your lawnmower.

Even though I'm a fan of older music, I'm not familiar with him. RIP Mr Jones. |

If you are a fan of country music from the late 70's to the late 80's, look him up. There's a reason he's considered a legend despite not showing up to more than half of his concert gigs.

I do enjoy listening to country music, but I haven't got any country albums. Would Captain Beefheart And The Magic Band count as country to a certain extent? |

I'd categorize Beefheart more as Experimental or Alt than country. At least, no one where I grew up ever listened to him.
I, fortunately, have much more broad musical tastes.
