The rules are simple.
You pick a category for one of your idols, list their name and how they inspire you. One hero per reply, if you please. :3
I'll begin.
Dog Training
Kyra Sundance
She's so positive and her books are simple to follow! My dogs love her training methods. Before her, I didn't think I could train my dogs to do half the things they do now!

Entrepreneur, artist, columnist, and all around good guy.
Rich Burlew
Rich creates The Order of the Stick, a fantasy adventure webcomic, and has for the last-- decade? More? He has several self published books in print, and started it all from a simple comic he uploaded to amuse his friends. He also has worked with Wizards of the Coast, creating content for their Dungeons and Dragons series of role playing games, as well as being a former contributor to the now defunct Dragon magazine.
Rich has inspired me in ways too many to mention. If there's a guy who's hand I'd like to shake, it's his.

Here's an artist who inspires me.
Klaufir
I found this artist last year. His art has a definite feel to it...sometimes it feels melancholy, other times peaceful. He's inspired me to try working in grayscale more and getting a certain mood across.

On hero per post, please. ;D
Lucid Dreaming
Stephen LaBerge
He is easily my favorite oneironaut, not because of his ability but because his books have inspired many, many people to start lucid dreaming. If not for him, I would never have experienced my first lucid dreams. His techniques are brilliant.

Oh! My apologies. I'll be more careful next time, I must have let the instructions slip my mind. I edited my post so there's just one artist on there.
Here's another in Art:

I just found this artist last week! They have really awesome characters, these bird people. I look forward to seeing more from them.

Dorothy Hodgkin (1910-1994)
Chemist and humanitarian.
Dorothy Hodgkin was a chemist who helped determine what the structures of cholesterol, lactoglobulin, ferritin, tobacco mosaic virus, penicillin, vitamin B-12, and insulin were - helping pave the way for penicillin, vitamin B-12 and insulin to be commercially produced and purified rather than grown, saving many lives.
She approached her work with a joyful heart, and was involved in many humanitarian efforts for scientists working in the Soviet Union, China, and North Vietnam. She also headed the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs for 12 years, a group of scientists which aims for "the elimination of all weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, chemical and biological) and of war as a social institution to settle international disputes. To that extent, peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and mutual understanding is an essential part of Pugwash activities, that is particularly relevant when and where nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction are deployed or could be used."

Crochet/Crafting
June Gilbank
June Gilbank is the woman who got me into making dolls in the first place and, incidentally, helped me master the craft of crochet with her book, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Amigurumi".
