The well-known Creatures Community blogger Jessica of Discover Albia has been running CreatureLink for over a year now, which was hosted by Creatures Caves here.
As of today, however, CreatureLink has moved to the main Creatures Caves website and is now more automated and user-friendly. Members can download two CreatureLink creatures (one male and one female), and then post their offspring to the website. The parents will be listed along with each creature, and the offspring will be listed as children on the parents' posts, ensuring that all CreatureLink creatures are linked together via the website. Siblings are also listed for each creature.
Once a user downloads a creature from CreatureLink, the download file will be deleted from the server and the user will be listed as the "adopter" for the creature. This ensures that each CreatureLink creature is only adopted one time by one person. It also allows the person who posted the creature to keep in touch with the person who adopted their norn, grendel or ettin from the website.
Please read over the resource article before adopting and posting creatures, and most importantly, enjoy this newly revamped service for the community!

Congratulations, Jessica and Rascii! I'm glad to see CreatureLink have a home here and I'll be sure to get stuck in and download my first couple of Norns.
I'm loving how Creatures Caves is becoming the one-stop shop for everything Creatures with all these new features! |

I'm still excited about how Rascii was able to program it all! He did an amazing job, and I think it will become even more apparent once we start seeing the children posted!
Creatures Caves is an amazing site: Always has been, but I agree with you about it becoming the one-stop shop for everything related to Creatures!
I'll be posting some C3/DS Norns in batches of 10-20 later today... For now, it's time I got to work!

Thanks, Nutter! I'm still amazed with Rascii's skills.
One quick point I didn't clarify completely: Members may adopt from CreatureLink without being required to upload any children in the future. Of course the goal is to continue on with the links, but if there is a Creature you really would love to add to your world, adopt away! I have 100+ C3/DS Norns still in the queue, and will soon have a fair number of C1 Norns and Grendels to add. Although it is asked that people be reasonable with their adoptions, taking home one or two simply to adopt is perfectly fine!

so, to upload children, their parents both have to be from CreatureLink? To me it would be a little more interesting and warp-like if we could download one norn and breed it with another random norn in our world that's not from CreatureLink and then post the children, so a little bit of everyone's worlds/norns could get in there It's still interesting though! I will probably download a couple of norns sometime... |

This stems from the original concept of CreatureLink, which was basically an adoption service for my Norns. It's still in the early stages, though, so I'm taking ideas into consideration! Right now it's a little limited in order to have some control over testing how everything works out. Rascii and I may consider making CreatureLink a little more broad in the future. For now, I hope the concept is something rather fun!

So it's been nearly two months since CreatureLink went live, and it hasn't caught on too much. I still have tons of Creatures to upload, but I wanted to try to get some more feedback! Are there certain aspects about it that aren't appealing? I know that many wanted to upload Creatures who only had one parent from CreatureLink, which would then open up the gene pool.
Rascii and I discussed adding this feature, but we wanted to test everything out for a bit before opening it up some more. I really would like to see this be something that people enjoy! Any ideas for improving it would be most appreciated. If it's just a lack of available Creatures, I'll spend this week posting a lot of new ones and also talk with Rascii about possibly relaxing the requirements for uploading.
Hopefully those who have used CreatureLink so far have enjoyed it!

I just haven't had the time to breed my CreatureLink Norns with each other. Yet when I do have time... They don't seem to want to breed with one another.

I think the "both parents must come from CreatureLink" restriction is probably why it's not as popular as it could be, since it's really limiting on the gene pool.
Apart from that, it's mildly annoying that pictures have to be .jpgs (which have lower quality compared to .pngs), but I'm still finding it enjoyable (and giving one of the old alpha couples a new lease on life is pretty awesome as well).

I think the Creature Link page in the Downloads section is a little hidden. Of the five sections under Downloads, only Creature Link doesn't have featured/recent downloads on the front Downloads page so you have to remember to look at the header to notice it. I didn't see the original Creature Link news so I only stumbled upon it when I realised there were more than four sections under each main page (doh).
The requirement for uploading that both parents must be from Creature Link may also put people off because they want to breed their own norns with the Creature Link norns and add their own touch to the generations ahead. Personally, I like this restriction as all of the breeds used are available to anyone with C3DS and you know that even if they were raised elsewhere, all of the creatures are pure descendants from your world. Perhaps it could be worth expanding the restriction to breeding with Creatures Link descendants and Creatures Labs breeds?
While it might take more effort, it would be neat if a creature's description linked to posts where it was mentioned or featured on Discover Albia (if it had been).

Thank you all for the feedback! To be honest, I had hoped to expand on the project once Rascii released it, but life really got in the way. It sounds like the biggest improvement might be to look into allowing descendants to be uploaded who have either one or two CreatureLink parents, rather than requiring that they be direct descendants.
Grendel Man: I believe the picture requirement comes from Rascii and Creatures Caves. It hasn't bugged me much, aside from the fact that I'm so used to saving everything as a .png! All of the uploaded photos look to be pretty good quality: I guess the real fun is seeing the Creature in-game!
Hmm, that is a good point about it being a little hidden, Mip. It's also my fault for not promoting it a lot more, like I've wanted to!
Also, your last request for the original ones to have a link to any posts on Discover Albia is definitely doable! I can certainly implement that, so that potential adopters can get an idea of the life each Creature went through before being uploaded.
Thanks to everyone who's been on an adopting craze today! I should be uploading a few more waves later this week... I apologize ahead of time if I spam the updates thread!

No problem, Rascii! I'll take care of making CreatureLink a little more popular and appealing, and will come to you later on for the coding stuff. Thanks again for hosting it here: At least it actually has a shot to be something, and it looks like it's picking up some steam again!
