This the story of a privelged norn who faces trouble in light of a recent catastrophy. I hope you guys like it!
Part 1: A Prince's Life
Acello's lineage consisted of only the finest magma norns in all of the Meso Desert. His decendents landed on New Albia many generations ago off of what was said to be the biggest space ship ever built. Acello was heir to the throne, his corination was soon approaching as his father had decided to step down. All was looking bright for this privelged norn, little did he know what fate had in mind for him!
As the sun kissed the sand on this special morning Acello was rehearsing his corination ceremony, his mother (the queen) and all of the servants aplauded Acello. He knew his actions were nothing to be praised but he thanked them anyway. Truthfully the thought of being crowned chilled his warm magma body! He had no talent, he wasn't powerful or respected like his father; he wasn't charismatic or diplomatic like his mother. What did he have to offer? Luckily Zoora (his childhood best friend) approached him with a sly smirk and a curiously furrowed brow. "What's troubling you my leige?"
"Nothing, and cut it out with the sarcastic royal comments! You're just jealous being a Bondi and all." he exclaimed.
Although only magmas inhabited the desert Zoora had been found in a crate of crawfish imported from the Bondi Bay. A servant watching Acello noticed his fascination of the blue norn at the fish market. Instead of exiling the creature the servant adopted this norn, from that day on they were inseperable. The Meso Desert was all Zoora knew.
"Hey you orange faced fool you wish you were like me, anyway I've known you long enough to know you've got something gnawing at ya."
"It's nothing, I've got to keep practicing. You'll be there tonight won't you?"
"Wouldn't miss it, now you better keep up the practice you shore could use it!"
Dusk cast a dark ominous veil over the desert, there wasn't a light on the horizon aside from kingdom's courtyard. Torches burned bright as the the kingdom's preist began Acello's corination. All of the citizens were in attendence of this momentous occasion, it was all anybody was talking about. Acello cast his eyes out on to his subjects, the only face he cared about seeing was Zoora yet she was nowhere to be found! Acello's stomach was in knots his anchor was M.I.A, he let her know how felt about it after he suffered through this boring event.
When it came time to be crowned with the the official solid gold crown Acello bowed his head, when an earth shatering cry escaped from a norn in the crowd! Acello's eyes darted wildly through the courtyard. Banshee grendels were attacking! Nothing like this had ever happened before, Acello knew it would be a massacre. The deserts natural barriers had always proven inhospitable to the Banshee throughout the centuries, how was this possible? Before he could wrap his head around the concept of an attack he was running. Where? He didn't know all he knew was the desert was no longer a place he could call home.

Chapter 2: What are you?
After running for quite some time Acello found himself a few huts away from Zoora's dwelling, his muscle memory must have led him here. She couldn't possibly be alive, her once organized home looked like a shredded hovel. Despite his antagonistic feelings he entered her house, upon his immediate search she was gone With his head hung low he trudged out through the doorway. Before he got far he heard a muffled groan, could it be her? He tracked the noise back to her askew bed, underneath it he discovered a badly beaten, hardly concious Zoora. "We have to get out of here Zoora, NOW!" he shouted.
"Ughhh, are they gone? Ow, my head kills! Help me up." she commanded.
"We really have to go, the Banshee made it to the corination, I didn't stick around to watch it all unfold. All I know is we have to leave now! They could be on their way!"
"True, what about the others? We can just leave them can we?"
"Us magma's are very solitary be nature, I know they would leave if they were in the same situation and I wouldn't blame them. It's just how it is."
"Fine, oh but I hope their okay! Where do we go anyway?"
"North, over the mountains, the pass will be easy to cross it's the dry season."
"A plan, that's something, let's go."
The two friends kept to the shadows as they narrowly escaped the seige on the kingdom. Neither of them had ever left the desert, in fact very few norns traveled between any territories. As the mountain pass drew near Acello and Zoora decided they had traveled far enough to rest without fearing an ambush. They eventually dozed off, their thoughts racing.
A sharp "Crack" sprang Acello to life, meanwhile Zoora slept like a rock. He readied himself for a fight, however, his fighting stance was rather pathetic. Thankfully the creature standing before him wasn't a grendel, unfortunately he didn't know what it was. He'd always heard his grandfather say, "Better to face the enemy you know than the one you don't." He skittishly greeted the creature, maybe it spoke norn. "Hello, creature, do you speak norn?" he slowly spoke.
"Yes, I'd appreciate it if you didn't speak to me that way."
"Sorry, I just don't know who you are or what you are. I've also been through a lot lately."
"Understood, we all have those days. Hey, you got a copper wire? I need one for my automatic sludge gun."
"What? I don't know what you're taliking about, what are you if you don;t mind me asking?"
"I believe you're species refered to us as ettins long ago"
"Yes, now I know! I've read about you're kind in school; I thought you were extinct?"
"No, just in hiding, it's safer that way for us."
"Are you alone?"
"Yes, I left in search of copper wiring, see I'm an inventor and I need it."
"You seem friendly enough, we were just going to head through the pass if you'd like to accompany us? Safety in numbers and all."
"I'd like that, I'm so relieved to have met friendly folk in such a hostile area."
"We'll get going if that's alright, let me just wake my friend."
After waking Zoora up and introducing the ettin who refused to tell his name (he didn't want to get close to them) they set off. Zoora was suspicious of the ettin but swalloed her feelings for Acello. The pass, rugged as it was, was beautiful! Wild flowers in vibrant colors, lucious grass underfoot, this was certainly no desert.
Before they knew it they were at the halfway point (it was marked by a sign). Acello felt great, things were looking up and he and Zoora were happy, maybe they could start a life together? Caught in his daydream Acello almost missed the ball of sludge that came flying at him. He ducked just in time! Before the next sludge ball came flying Acello had just enough time to see who his assailant was. I was an ettin with a red bandana around it's head. Suddenly the ettin they Acello and Zoora had been traveling with twisted Zoora's arm behind her. "Give me everything you've got, little prince!" he demanded. The ettin at the sludge machine wore a satanic grin while Zoora wimpered with a pleading look on her face.
"No, you'll get nothing! Why betray us, we've done nothing but show you kindness?"
"Its a grendel eat grendel world, kid. Us ettin gotta take advantage when an opportunity comes a'knockin."
"I get it, but that means you won't mind if I-"
Before either ettin could utter another word Acello punched the one holding Zoora and snatched her back. The two were off running immediately. Being that the sludge gun was the ettins' only advantage and that it was extremely heavy, the chase wasn't worth it for them.
Eventually the norns made it to the end of the pass, and what they saw there would change everything...

Chapter 3: Beach Bum
A vast expanse of shoreline spread as far as the norns could see. Not only was there a beautiful beach, but huts and boat as well! A civilization was exactly what these bedraggled norns needed, but would they be friendly? There was only one way to find out.
Upon approaching a wooden fence surrounding the villae the Acello and Zoora were met by a plump relaxed norn who claimed to be a guard. To both of their surprise the norn was a bondi!
"I suppose this is a guest of yours young lady?" the guard casually inquired.
"Um, well...you see...ahh, where to start? Well I don't exactly live here..."
Acello and Zoora informed the guard of their situation and went through their entire story. The guard, surprisingly, believed them and permitted them to enter the city. That's when Zoora made a suggestion.
"Seeing as we're in the closest bondi village from the kingdom, there's a good chance I'm from here, right?"
"Yea, I guess so. I just can't picture you being from anywhere else, although you do look natural here."
"Do you think, while we're here, we could look for my family?"
"I don't see why not, besides it's not like we have any place to be, but where would we start?"
"They have to have some sort of record keeping system, like our scribe back in the desert. let's go have a look."
After a detailed look around the town, Acello learned that records were kept at the village center hut, right next to the crobster market. Although finding where the records were was easy finding anything related to Zoora was difficult.
Eventually they reached the last column of records along the floor. To their dismay most of the boxes were partially if not completely rotted, the price of being close to the ocean. They took any files that weren't totally destroyed and looked through them. Finally something caught Zoora's eye!
"Acello, look at this article. It mentions a baby norn missing, suspected to have accidently been exported with fish to the Meso Desert!"
"It's got to be you, is there any information regarding family members?"
"Umm, let me see....no that part must be rotted out. I'll finish going through the whole file just to be sure."
"Alright, don't get too excited, you don't want to be-"
"Wait! I found a newspaper article! It says the sister of the missing norn conducted a coastal search, and traveled to multiple villages inquiring about their imports, and even better there's an address."
"What are we waiting for, it's time for a family reunion!"
Will Zoora finally meet her family after all these years or will it be a dead end? Stay tuned! |
