An all-new website section called Bibble is now open! Essentially, the old user status updates have been renamed bibbles, and you may now comment on and like them. You can view all of the bibbles in the Bibble section, and you can still bibble from the My Caves main page or from the section itself. Bibble is basically the twitter of the Creatures Community. There is a 140 character limit, though you may use commands and smilies in them. More features to come!
I like the idea of this. However, I really don't like the fact that regular-sized updates suddenly dissolve into ellipses points when under the old system they looked normal. I'm really not in the mood to look at the Bibble page just to see the whole update, especially when the update in question is underneath all of that user's posts.
My suggestion would be to have the update only become ellipses when the length of the update surpasses the old limit - that way, pre-Bibble updates won't look so odd.
That's a great idea, Grendel Man. Actually I was in the midst of trying to finish up everything yesterday when I had to leave for work, and didn't have time to really decide whether to show full bibbles in forum signatures and private messages or not. But I just wanted to get it functioning before I had to leave.
I was considering just showing the entire bibble, but then, for example, if you have a link in your bibble, then I can't make the whole bibble a link to the bibble section. So i guess it would need a [view] link after it or something.
I'm still struggling with what to do there. I'll at least change it back to the old status length though, as you suggested. The other option would be to disable commands and smilies in bibbles. Thoughts, anyone?
Update: OK, I have now changed the length on the My Caves page and in private messages to be the same as the old length before shortening and adding ellipses.
And in the forums, I have now made it show the full bibble with a comment button after.
Really thrilled to see a feature like this here! It's like combining two of my favourite websites - Creatures Caves and Facebook - into one. Thank you, Rascii!
Update: I've just added a "Latest Bibbles" section to each user's profile, where you can see their five most recent bibbles. You can also click on "more" and it will show all of their bibbles.
Cute idea - could we swap the order of activity and bibbles, so that activity appears before bibbles? My thinking is that activity should be more substantial than bibbles, so it should go first.
The reason I put Bibbles first is that there are only five of them, so they don't take up much of the screen. However there are ten items for latest activity. I see what you mean though. Hmm.
I've added a preview feature for Bibbles to help alleviate the issue. Hopefully if people preview their Bibbles and see that the video isn't showing, they'll realize it's the wrong URL.
