That I'm hoping to turn into a movie.
Ever since grandroids was announced, I've had a bit of a story bug, a "plot bunny" if you will.
I want to write a story revolving around a creature in a game similar to the concept of Grandroids, who due to a mutation has brain power comparable to a human. He is ostracized from the rest of his species, and as a result of both this and the person running the game noticing his intelligent he spends time with the game runner. The game runner eventually develops methods where he can interact with the real world, to the point of developing a robotic avatar for him, essentially making him the first artificially intelligent robot.
Then other depressing stuff happens.
My main issue is in the design of the creatures. I really can't help but see them, and the main character, as looking very nornish, but I don't want to rip off norns and creatures directly. I know there are many creatures in other mediums that resemble norns (Gremlins comes to mind, but I know there's several video games like this too) so maybe it's just an accepted archtype of cute and I can roll with it. I'm not sure.
Do not upset the ugly worm, lest it be a dragon in disguise. (>oo)>

How about going with something the total opposite of a norn, highly non-humanoid? I've got a few things from deviantart which I think could make cool examples of something which would make a good "norn" of a grandroids type game.

I guess I'm not the only one who is inspired by creatures. Some of my strongest (in my opinion) characters have evolved from norns I got attached to but I turn them into humans/humanoids. I guess you could take elements from a norns appearance but add some of your own twist to it, for example take their hair colour, style, give them simillar ears or a tail or something and then get a bunch of ordinary animal features and combine them all to get something new. Or you could have humanoid creatures with possibly ears and eyes, horns, and a tail like norns. A lot of authors are inspired by other characters and often give the character an attribute or two from their inspiration. As long as you are not going out of your way to rip off the whole design and have made it clear that the character is it's own entity then I think you should be fine. |
