| New metaroom: Need advice on background | |

So, I figured out I'd make a new metaroom.
I have no name for it yet, I want to finish it and then I'll look into that.
My inspiration is from Pandora, from the movie Avatar.

Currently I have this:

but I'm stuck on how to do the background. I don't want to go and use images from the web, I want to try to do it all with vectors.
If anyone has suggestions on how to do the background, new ideas I could use, or if you want to give it a shot yourself, feel free to post here! I can use any and all inspiration.
I'm willing to send the .svg file for anyone willing to try and make a background themselves.

What exactly are you stuck on?
In my experience, the best way to get past that initial "oh god I don't know what I'm doing" is just to pick parts and make them. Then pick other parts and make them. Eventually you'll have a bunch of parts. Figure out how to put them together. Then make it look good

I love the inspiration for the room and the background that you have so far. Great job!

I agree with Liam - pick one bit, do it, keep going. You could also stick a tree in the background, to mirror the giant mushroom.

Hello Pearldragoness, I'm glad you posted here! I think you're more likely to get the help you need in this forum, rather than from us sleepy lot in CC Chat. ![[nwink] [nwink]](/images/smilies/emot_wink.gif)
I really enjoyed the Avatar movie, so I am very excited for this metaroom! Pandora is just such an awe-inspiring and, for the want of a better word, pretty world to play with. I love what you've done so far, especially with the green foliage and the purple flowers. Nice work! ![[ngrin] [ngrin]](/images/smilies/emot_grin.gif) |

My advice, call it the Pandoraium.
Also, how are you planning to deal with the alternate atmosphere?
Anyway, I like the idea of a Pandora metaroom.
P.S. Have you got a backstory yet? |

I always liked the idea of a fully vector metaroom (and a fully vector norn breed for that matter), so I'm happy to see this project, and it seems to be coming along just fine!
I will agree with what the others have said. Just pick a few major elements, maybe some large funky trees and rocks, or mushrooms, or whatever, and work on them one at a time, then fit them all together with combining elements.
It's just like painting a picture. You paint your mountains, your trees, your river, and then you spruce it all up with grass, rocks, and the little details. |

Pandoralbia.
Luckily, the Avatar movie has a lot of available screenshots. If I were you, I'd shamelessly use these in photoshop. I'd hand draw a concept background, like the one you have, and bit by bit add parts from various screenshots into it. I'd mind the blending, and never blend anything 100%, but rather stay between 30 and 70% in order to get the images to fit together. That way, they'd blend in with your drawing, making your graphics have depth, while still keeping that game like feel that most creatures graphics have (being mostly computer generated).
Try and fail and try again, and I'm sure you'll be able to make something beautiful. |

The notion of a metaroom created purely in vectors is amazing; I'm pretty sure it hasn't been done before, and it looks like it already has some great potential. I wish I could help you more, but vectors are sadly not my thing (though, this sort of inspires me to try playing with them again).
