| Can doors cause forgetfulness? | |

I was reading this news article which states that when we go through doors, we sometimes forget what we were doing so that we can concentrate on the new environment.
I know our little darlings have enough trouble understanding that pushing the door once is enough, although I think I saw something about that in Grendel Man's blog.. but is this something that can be applied to DS? Is this desirable?

In the standard genome the 'Enter' and 'Exit' drives are dropped to zero by pushing a door, which is meant to discourage repeat door-pushing. Enter and Exit, like other navigation drives are injected by the game when a norn smells something it wants that is out of sight. (These drives are how norns find their way home in Danikat's IQ test.)
Problem is, norns don't just push doors because of Enter/Exit, but also from crowdedness, boredom or a few other things. If it doesn't completely remove those drives, they may push it again.
You could solve this by gengineering the norns so doors drop drives more effectively.
I'm also tossing around an idea of making some chemical that suppresses them from looking at doors immediately after pushing one, but I'm not sure how that would work as of yet.
By the way, I don't care if anyone steals my ideas for their own work, as long as you don't try to stop me from making my own stuff. Many ideas I mention are things I don't have the time or skill to actually do. |

My Norns seem to forget everything as they age. How to eat, what to do with doors, lifts, toys, dispensers, etc. The idea of doors causing forgetfulness is interesting, considering how common perpetual door/portal pushers seem to be. I've frequently wondered if it's simply a matter of sensory change/unfamiliarity in a new environment.

I mean, presumably you could urge norns to go east or west after pushing a door... which would hopefully switch their attention to.... another door, at the very least.
The 'portal' stim very effectively removes crowdedness and boredom for most breeds, but that doesn't stop a norn from pushing portal again and again and again...
It would make sense if pushing doors reduced crowdedness and boredom.
