Is it possible for C3/DS norns to learn what to do when they're ill?
In C3/DS, if Abel expresses that 'Abel very ill', would Cain give any advice to Abel? 'maybe eat potion', or 'maybe retreat self'?
Has anyone seen such an exchange in their creatures?

I don't know, but I'm a little confused about what ill means. Sometimes if you ask creatures, they say they're ill, other times they talk about how hungry or bored they are as if it is a synonym for unhappy.
Now if the creature said that "eem intensely ill" it would probably mean the former so I can see them giving advice. On the other hand instinct genes don't seem to list it as a possible drive so perhaps their brains don't view it as one? I've never witnessed them give advice at any rate. |

I've often "suggested" that an ill norn should "eat fruit" (after making sure there are lemons nearby). I have also noticed that sometimes, if that norn becomes infected with bacteria again he/she is able to "self-medicate" and heal much more quickly and will suggest other norns "eat fruit" under similar circumstances. Of course, this is mostly for simple bacteria, not serious illness.
If I am in "study/research" mode and that norn doesn't make any attempt to cure itself, then that subject is usually booted from the world. Survival of the fittest.

Thanks, Jagotka!
Do you tickle your norns when they eat fruit after you've suggested they do?
At least this supports the theory that norns can learn to self-medicate.

I sure do! A little positive reinforcement never hurts!

I think 'ill' doesn't register when the norn only has histamines, not antigens.

As far as I understand, norns don't know they're ill - it's programmed into the game for them to say it.
However, illness often raises the hungers, so likely your norn that ate fruit while sick was reacting to the resulting hunger.
By the way, I don't care if anyone steals my ideas for their own work, as long as you don't try to stop me from making my own stuff. Many ideas I mention are things I don't have the time or skill to actually do. |
