| CAOS Attribute/something else? | |

When objects fall through floors or platforms, is it something that can be fixed by using the CAOS behaviors or attributes? And is it a problem with the agent or with the floor?
To be specific, I was trying to set some toys and things on some of the platforms in Viridia. Some of them sit there nicely, but others fall through to the ground.
I've figured out some stuff in CAOS (making things movable, cloning, etc.) and wondered if this might be something I can fix at my current level of ignorance.

Whether something falls through the floor or not is governed by the PERM of the agent, and the PERM of the floor. Floors that are semi-permeable generally have a PERM of about 50. The smaller the PERM, the less permeable the agent is - an agent with a PERM of 0 will not fall through any floors.

Is this why things fall through the floor of the elevator shaft? Is there a manual way I can stop that from happening? |

Whee, I'm off to do some new environment enhancing. Thanks, Malkin!

What do you mean by 'a manual way', Feddlefew?

Feddlefew: yes you can change an individual object's PERM so it doesn't fall through floors. If I have a particular object I want to stop from falling through floors, I move the cursor over it and use the cheat: "targ hots perm 100"

I'm talking about the C3 Desert terrarum elevator shaft next to the cave-pond. I want to fix that so that the ecology stops being sucked down it like a giant drain. |

Zombiemold has made some cos alterations that largely fix this, under "Desert Terrarium Fixes" here.

Yeah, you probably don't want to try editing floor permeability yourself on the fly. The attributes used for rooms work differently than for agents (eg. you have to know the ID numbers for the rooms involved), so it really isn't as simple to change them.

Can permeability actually be anything other than 0, 50, or 100?

Yes, it can be any number between 0 and 100. There's just little reason to differentiate things any more than that, and it makes it easier to predict which surfaces an object will or won't react to.
