The C3/DS norn eggs have been bothering me- I understand that they were recycled from C2. They look a bit too much like someone painted chicken eggs for my tastes.
- Brightly colored isn't a bad thing; I think they should stand out from the background so they're easy to find. They just shouldn't look like someone painted them. I'm looking at you, checkerboard egg. From the bird eggs I've seen, "natural" patterns include speckles, splotches, rings, mottled, and lines of varying thicknesses. Some eggs even change color from one end to the other, although this seems to be more common among pointy-egged species..
-Related to the above, it bothers me that most of the possible eggs look alike, with a tendency for bluish or "natural" colored eggs, and a complete lack of purple and bright green eggs.
-Ground nesting birds, such as ostriches and emus have oval eggs, like the C1 spirit set, because they don't run the risk of rolling off a high place.
Anyone else have any ideas? |

Emu eggs, can, depending on the lighting, be a vibrant green to dark green.

Egg spirits are supposed to be realistic? I don't think it's worth wondering about the "realistic" factor of cute little spirits guarding your eggs. [/sarcasm]
Ahem. I really don't have anything to offer for eggs that look like birds (or for egg sprites in general; I'm perfectly fine with the defaults). However, I think frog-or-fish-like eggs would be pretty spiffy for aquatic breeds.

I can agree that some of the patterns are strange--the black and white checkerboard pattern has bothered me since I first bought C2. Way to say "not natural"!
I don't think color really matters. Monotreme eggs are just plain white, and I've never heard of reptile eggs that were any other color--presumably because they're so often buried or hidden there's no point (although it could have something to do with the quality of the shell too). I would expect that a "realistic" Norn egg would just be white, but if we're going to base them on birds it would be nice to see some that were white with brown spots.

Actually a realistic norn egg can be nearly any solid color, speckled color, or striped color. Consider that Emus lay rich turquoise eggs, Rheas lay bright yellow eggs, Chickens can lay brown, white, red, orange and black spotted, green, blue, purple, pink, and striped eggs, and most shorebirds lay speckled and striped looking eggs, as if someone had taken a paintbrush and spattered them. Some are beautifully spotted too, like Quail eggs. There's even glassy purple eggs out there, laid by land-dwelling birds.
Norns lay eggs exposed to the environment, and with their large size I'd assume the best to do is make for a flashy but also cryptic, camo color for the environment.
Personally my main issue is with the checkered one but hey, norns were a created species from many different things. You know how easy it is to even breed something selectively for egg color? Quite.

Bird eggs are colorful! 8^D
Edit: I'd imagine that the Shee would want to be able to find the eggs after norns laid them, considering the norns tendency to leave them in terrible places.
Edit 2: More bird eggs. This picture is good at showing the different shapes. |

Maybe as an easter project someone could make chocolate egg sprites, and edit them so that they are edible? |

If you guys prefer the C1 eggs over those of C2, why don't you just do it? They are included in C3/DS already, you just have to change the scrips accordingly. It is not more than replacing about 6 numbers or so.
I even made my egglayers and norns use bothsets at once.

I like the C1 eggs, but that's not what I was looking for. I haven't been able to find natural-patterned egg spirits, and I just happen to prefer the more rounded shape of the C1 eggs over the pointy ones in later games. |

Me too. And it's more logical, Norns are land creatures. They can't fly. (At least, not NORMALY) So there is no real need for a pointed tip! The eggs could roll around the ground all they want.
Perhaps if you ever do make egg sprites you should make them round? Just a suggestion.

Im seem to be alone liking the C2 chekered ones - for me,I didn't like the natural "chiken egg" specialy, not that I say it's not nornish, but it was just..not my fav XD
Im attached to colorful and strange that marked c1 *love the red yellow striped one* - also for me,norns are fantasy beings, and so I don't mind they have some of the colorful weird ones among theyre little egg bunch..
but to end of the complains of the c3-ds egg prob..wich I also think it's boring they had recycle the eggs, the birth and death themes *in music*as well >_>...
Why not open the eggs sprite and recolor the eggs to your'e own taste?
I think mummy's creatures had a base pack for those willing to re-paint them XD
If need help with that - I could find the link and along with give you guideline how, unless it's in that pack im mentioning..
*also somehow there is a way to keep the original eggs and add own sets..but I never could make the "add own egg sprites without removing the clabs one" O.o'
edit: I also remember dementchild made a cool agent that makes all the eggs in c3/ds into c1 ones..or alternate - add the c1 eggs,so norns can even lay them!
*have to search around to find that one hmm*
was thinking that - you said you guys like ovals - so if recoloring even the c1 eggs inside the c3/ds sprite - that wouldn't be a waste XD
