Biodome - need opinions!

Hi all,

A while ago, Nirax completed a wonderful new background for the entirety of the Biodome, replacing the old blue-stuff with new-blue-stuff.

You can see the old Biodome here, and the new Biodome here.

My question is: should it just come with the new background, or should I make it so that the user can decide which background to use?

Cheers.

Both look awesome.

My suggestion - focus on making it work with the old background. Once you've done that, decide whether to make the background moddable of not. Making a meta-room is a lot of work, after all.

By the way, I don't care if anyone steals my ideas for their own work, as long as you don't try to stop me from making my own stuff. Many ideas I mention are things I don't have the time or skill to actually do.

In this case I think you ought to go with the new background.

The background-changey rooms make sense since it's a biodome after all, but changing the exterior is a bit of a stretch.

Plus the new background basically looks like an upgrade of the previous one, so you don't really need both.

At first, I thought you were actually going to release the metaroom with the background looking half-finished, but judging by the posts above me the "empty spots" are actually for Terra-esque background swapping.

In that case, I'd say go with the new one - it looks much nicer than the old one.

Ettina: The new background is going in either way as the default, I've just got to decide whether to include the old background as an alternative. (In case you haven't followed the development of the Biodome, the actual room is pretty much finished, it's just this cosmetic thing I have to decide).

AS: Fair call, yeah.

Grendel_Man: Yeah, each of the below sections is changeable and has a variety of different backgrounds.

I wouldn't bother - it could cause confusion in the GUI as to whether you're changing the background for the background, or the room. I will miss those little pebble and coral embedded things, though.

The new one looks great, and I don't really see a need to change the exterior, so I vote for just releasing it with the new bg.

I view the new biodome as best. Awesome look for a room. Just three questions I've had:
1. Does it have an ecosystem, I.E. plants and critters and if so are they C2 conversions or original?
2. Is it true the biodome is coming this CCSF? Yay!
3. How do creatures get between levels? Is the biodome for flying creatures only? Is there some huge elevator network? The hand picking them up and manually moving them?

In any case, the biodome is awesome! Looks like a great equivalent to the canopy and terra reborn for WRs.

Sam: It will come with some new (primarily aquatic) critters and plants, but not an ecosystem. The idea is that you inject and transplant agents from other places to create your perfect room.

Yes, it will be released this CCSF.

There are lifts that travel between levels.

I'd have to say I agree with Gumbo regarding the answers to all three of my questions. And the room in general. Awesome-looking place for a wolfing run.

EDIT: By "primarily aquatic" do you mean that most of the critters are aquatic, or that they are amphibians that live mostly in water like the Wogob fish in Terra Pluvialis?

Aquatic fish/animals. (The wogob is actually aquatic, as well.)

Do I hear fish? Yay fish!

Being AquaShee and all that I really ought to, you know, release some aquatic stuff. I'm excited for the Biodome though yay!

I like the idea of transplanting your own plants, I hope it'll encourage people to create more standalone yet vulnerable critters and plants to make this even more fun.

Well, I'm hyped now. I see some aquatic life that I've never seen before, and it is glorious.

This room'll lead to some epic wolfling runs, I daresay. :D

You can also see a little more here, courtesy of malkin's bugtesting -- double the lifts, double the fun, right? Right?

Grendel_Man: Hopefully that's not all the new aquatic wildlife you'll see ;) There's also a new bush in those screenshots.
