I'm currently working on a new norn breed, aspergers norns.

As of now, I've merely removed a few fairly "social" instincts (the instinct to run away from grendels or approach norns when lonely). However, I don't quite think this is enough to truely similate a sort of norn aspergers. So I've taken a look at the brain. Then run away screaming.

Any experienced brain engineers here willing to help me out, or at least point me in the right direction?

I've using the CFE genome as my base btw.

Wikipedia says that Aspbergers' is " characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests"... so, not like non-CFE norns at all, then?

You could try editing pose genes, since people on the autistic spectrum often have unusual mannerisms. Some specifics:

Tendency to walk/stand with arms bent close to your body ('velociraptor pose')

Hand-flapping (usually when excited)

Walking on tiptoe

Anyway, it's kind of tricky to mimic autism/Aspergers in norns, since it depends on some traits that norns are too simple to have. For example you can't have need for routine if you can't recognize a string of connected events.

By the way, I don't care if anyone steals my ideas for their own work, as long as you don't try to stop me from making my own stuff. Many ideas I mention are things I don't have the time or skill to actually do.

I think it would be easy to give them some symptoms. I have aspergers myself and have all of those that Ettina listed. I think maybe a pose gate gene would need to be edited to make the norns walk on their tiptoes or walk funny with their arms.

Maybe subsittute hand flapping with a different repetative behavior such as when I often see norns that stay in one place and constantly move one leg forward and back. I see that all too often in norns that have high mutations.

Obsession with things (norns already have that! Honey, lifts, buttons..) maybe just make these more obvious or intensify them.

Lack of social behaviors, just increase crowdedness or occurances of crowdedness. They'll want to retreat norn more often!

Often times aspergers people also have a skill that can boarder on amazing (a knowledge for a specific thing like computer coding, with me it happens to be cats and Japanese) Just give the norn breed a specific skill that makes them considerably stand out from other breeds.

Give the norn breed sensitivities. Maybe to cold, heat, lack of food, a certain food, pain.. anything or a combination of things. For example magma norns are sensitive to cold. They get uncomfortable easily in cooler environments.

If there are any other aspergers "symptoms" i'm missing please feel free to fill them in.

That's a gait impairment - they're trying to walk somewhere but their gait/pose genes are mutated to something really inefficient. Several of my gen 27s have that issue.

Maybe you could have something the Norn says or does extremely often? Lots of people with asper. like to do one thing a lot or say one thing a lot. Maybe the Norn could have some crazy affinity for staying near the Norn home, or maybe it could like to pull toys more often than push, etc.

Hi. My brother has asbergers so I hope I can help.

Perhaps there is some way to make them repeat words in a scentence (stutter) or something like that.

You could Also make them determend, less likely to react to reward or diciplen. If they focous on doing something they will try to do it, not paying attention to others comands (The hand) Sure most times they should react unless they are in the process of doing something.

As quite a few people have said, being "obseesed"with an item, place or action would be good.

But for the part of acualy implenting the ideas into the norns brain I myself am clueless. It's something I would like 'learn myself. Sorry I cant be of much help there.

(and sorry about my bad spelling)

Darnit. I actually had an autistic norn one time (spontaneous mutation), back in the days when C1 was shiny and new. I actually sent him to the developers and had a brief exchange with them that I can't remember now. I wish I still had his file around! He was completely self-focused (based on the little floating window thingy above his head, which never contained anything but his own face). I couldn't get his attention to get him to learn, or eat, or anything. He just wandered aimlessly around in his internally-absorbed way until he starved to death.

i had a norn like that in C1 when i first started playing. He wouldnt eat, socialize and ignored me, to the point he got so sick and ended up dying of illness. Most times he would wander around aimlessly around Albia, but sometimes he would just stay frozen for minutes on end, strangest norn i ever had.

Hmm, norns with Aspergers is an interesting concept. Along with everyone else's suggestions, how about making them focussed on minutiae? Perhaps make them only feel the want to fulfill a need once it hits very specific criteria? I'm not sure how this could be made to work so I don't know whether this is possible or not. :$

The tiptoe gait could probably be adapted from the poses for ascending and descending though.
