Hello all-
I am a general fan of sticking wings on creatures, and I was wondering how to do this. Can I just use one of the empty image spots?
Also, would there be any way to make them emote? I think it'd be cool to have them fold their wings while sleeping, extend them when scared (literally: fight or flight), mantle them menacingly with anger, etc.
Sorry if this is obvious/has been covered! |

Usually wings were simply added to upper arm (bicep) sprites or to the body sprite. Neither of these places allow for emotional expression. (If you were to replace the arms completely you might be able to use gait and pose genes to express emotions with the wings/arms.)
There aren't any empty breed slots, but there are some with less used breeds.

That would be really really interesting, maybe linking wings with facial expressions?

Good luck!

Or, but I think that looks quite silly, you attach the wings to the head. Then you could make them change with emotions.

I also suppose an external program could be used to place wings on creatures with a high enough chemical concentration, such as the one used for the flying agent.....it could then linked to display specific wings when specific head sprites are used.....but that would take a lot of coding!

Yes, they might be able to be put as a clothes overlay, which should have enough slots for at least a few drive-based changes. It could use either the head or just the drive concentration.. but you're right it would take a lot of coding. |

Okay, good to know. Looks like emoting is going to have to wait until/if my coding skills improve! Thanks everyone! |

Sorry to revive this, but I'm having a slight difficulty. I put the wings on the norn's body, which has worked fine except when the norn is facing me (I haven't gotten him to turn his back to me yet, so this might also be a problem). The arms attach behind the body from the front, which makes the wings look like they're in front of the arms (very weird).
Any ideas? All I can think of is to remove the wings from the front-facing body sprites and attach them to front-facing arm sprites in a way that looks natural, but this would cause major weirdness in any crossbreeds that didn't have the wing body plus the wing arms. |

How about making the wings folded back more when facing the screen? Depending on the shape of the wings, you'd only see them stick out above their shoulders or something. the wings will be very noticeable when walking sideways, so they won't be missed as much when facing forward.
I'm not sure how other winged breeds do this, most seem to have their wings attached to the arms.

Well, the Vampyre Grendels and the Butterfly Norns have their wings attached to their bodies too and they handle it just like AquaShee told.

I found a German tutorial on "Wings for a C3 Norn Breed".
