My brain works in mysterious ways. I was simply minding my own business and this thought came to me, "why not make use of the space available in DS?" So my thoughts turned to the Hub/Corridor and how much it's not used. And since my mind won't rest until I have created a fully formed idea, I set about creating this concept......

Remember it's only a concept, and much would still need to be done, but it gives you an idea of what I was thinking.
Would you use this? Do you think a nice aquatic ecosystem would be useful or do you think different environment would be better?
I just want to know if it's something worth pursuing, or if I should file it away with my other forgotten theories and ideas.

YES.
YES.
Yesyesyes!
This would be sooo amazing, especially if it was terra-ish and you could change if from underwater to desert or swamp, etc...
Omg please do this.

Thanx, C-Rex and Gumbo!
Hmmm......a variable background? It might be possible. I'll have to look into that.
Anyone else have an opinion?
(PS - Thank you, Laura!)

Oh that isn't hard. If you use the same method I did for KT, using a sprite "underlay" to patch over the modified area instead of trying to change the actual metarom background, it's pretty basic.

Ya, well I have next to no coding experience (I can do egg agents). I do have a secret coding expert who has offered to help with my CoC project, that is if they still want to and have time.
But it's good to know the coding wouldn't be hard.

Oh yes, I'd say it's worth it.
I wouldn't necessarily make it aquatic, though. I'd make it the same terrain as the default hub, with an elevator so creatures could access the new area.
Although the design does raise questions of how this would work with docked worlds....

It actually shouldn't affect a docked world, as that top middle section hasn't been altered.

Unless you were referring to something else.
The default hub, or just an empty place you could grow things?
Having the initial setting being just bare, empty hub would be nice. It would allow for maximum customization. Then possible other settings for garden, water, ect.?

My advice would be to have it as the lone shee's personal quarters. A tiny bed, bookshelves, an elevator to the upper hub, tea & cookie vendors, windows to outside and the stars, controls for the ship's equipment and scientific-looking toys like a telsa coil that zaps norns.
But a terra or KT style changing room seems great as well.
Really, I'd love this idea. |

Yeah, if you have Map Editor you can basically just make it do the work and then cut/paste the parts you need from the code it gives you.
I'd prefer more growing space, frankly; you can ignore the "growable" quality of a room if you don't want to grow things, but if it isn't organic and you do want to grow things you're kind of stuck. The ability to alternate at will would be nice, but definitely a more complex aspect code-wise.

By how docked worlds would be affected, I was more or less referring to the presence of an elevator. The teleporter is sitting right in the best spot for an elevator.
I suppose one could put it to the left/right of the teleporter. It'd look odd, but it'd probably work.

ok an idea:
Dropdown menu or slide-out somewhere that has the following options:
Salt water
Fresh water
Living quarters
Jungle (grendel home)
Desert (ettin home)
Forest (norn home)
I really really like the living quarters idea... with some tea time bushes... <3<3<3

I like the idea of the living quarters too, but I don't think I could do it. Salt and freshwater wouldn't be that different graphically and fairly simple. A forest would be tricky, but possible. A jungle would be easy. The desert would be almost impossible to get the feel of in such a small space.
Ghosthande, it would be more complex, but still possible? I'd hate to design something that's impossible.
GrendelMan, I didn't like that spot because it's right in front of a door, and it would just irk me. Also with the big blobby thing it would look weird, and I wanted to keep it in an attempt it keep the ship still a ship instead of an abstract accumulation of rooms.

...You know, I completely forgot about that door being there. Yeah, understandable reasons are understandable.
On another note, I think a mini-desert would be freaking awesome (Now I want to do a metaroom based on that concept...). But for the purposes of this project, I stand by my original suggestion of the expansion being more or less similar to the original in feel.

A mini-desert really would be awesome! Let us know how it goes!
I think I can safely start on a hub/bare/basic version. I am still open to suggestions or concerns, but I'm bored right now and need to do something.

Oh, no, changing a room's type is totally possible--Moe's Room Changer is one example of an agent that does it.

Room type changing is pretty easy; I can send you a beta of the Biodome if you'd like to see how I did it there. Send me an email at liam dot esler(att)g mail..com

I would love a beta of the Biodome, but to be honest I wouldn't know what I was looking at other than from a players perspective.
Thank you Ghosthande and Liam!!
I realized last night that I needed better screenshots, the ones I have still have the menus on the sides. Easy to do, but just another thing on the list.

Aso, just an idea, you could do a huuge metaroom in the hub... built for nano norns!
I tried to do a huge metaroom for nanos but i stopped for lack of coding (all sprites are done)
But it would be really cool if there was like a tiny world underneath the hub.
Just an idea... But i mean talk about use of space

You should share a pic of that Nano room, maybe someone will offer to help?
