I have a few questions about the genetics kit in general:
* Is it possible to make Norns use different appearance genes at different lifestages e.g: Bengal Norn arms when it's a baby, Civet arms when it's a child. I've tried it myself but the Norn stays the same as it was when it was a baby, and yes I changed the genes to switch on at different life stages.
* How do I make a Norn amphibious?
* Can I make Norns instinctively search for water when something has happened e.g: they are pregnant |

I don't know about the first.
A tutorial can be found on amphibiousness-ness here.
For the pregnancy-waterseeking, I'd suggest making the smell that triggers their 'homesickness' ocean water, and that should get them approaching water when they're pregnant.

I don't think the first one works at all sadly. If I find a way I will be sure to tell you.
Malkin is right about the pregnancy. For an event other than pregnancy, you can make the stimulus for that event give homesickness. I think that's what happens to Ettins when "got gadget" is triggered though I can't check right now.

Thanks for the help guys. I have recently found out that the first one DOES work after I looked at the genetic files of the Gremlin Norns from Treesprite's Creatures Grove. I just can't seem to get it to work. |

Actuly the first do work - but it is a bit tricky - I made one norn thats downloadable on TCR..

the key is to have more then one genus file and more apperance gene for each lifestage..
the thing is, you have to keep in mind to have 5 apperance genes for each lifestage and one genus for each lifestage (make sure you set the species on the genus for the corresponding breed slot you want - example the genetic gremlin breed have one norn genus and one grendel genus.
I think I have my backup of my 3 times changing norns somewhere..Might load up some of my strange experiments like that.
As for amphibius - I used to know how to,I know it's quite simple, but the tutorial Malkin gave you should help.
The seek water thingy is in the stimulans and instinct part I belive.
Just look for the preg part of those genoms. |

A note about water-seeking: water isn't actually considered to be an object, and therefore creatures will not recognize it at all. Simply making it so that they consider anywhere with high water smell home won't make them approach it - they'll simply get a homesickness reduction if they're in such an area. The way the norn/grendel/ettin home smell works is that there's an object that emits those smells, and that object is what homesick creatures approach.
I don't think there is a way to get them to actually go to areas based on smell alone, although it might be possible through advanced brain editing.

If that's true Grendel_Man then couldn't someone make an object that releases water smell, so then they have something to approach?

Not exactly, Grendel_Man.
The "CACL" command links a scent with an object, and when a norn wishes to approach this object it can then use the scent to find the nearest object. But the actual object doesn't have to be there. I can just make a random brick smell like cheese and have a few very disappointed and hungry norns wandering over.
You would need minor brain and .catalogue editing to add the extra "water" object to the vocabulary list, but you wouldn't really need to place them anywhere at all, as long as the scent is there Norns will approach it.
(This does not account for quirky CA settings like scents not propagating in underwater rooms or something, I heard there was some issues going on there and don't know all the details)

maybe create a new gene which commands the norn to 'approach' the water when her oestrogen and progesterone fluctuate during pregnancy?
