General Forum CREATURES 4 Licensed, NEW   1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | ... | 12 | 13 GreenReaper        5/17/2011 A new game based on Creatures is in development. Gameware has licensed the Creatures franchise to Belgian development studio Fishing Cactus. [tip: itachihsu] The game is to be published by Bigben Interactive (see past games by BigBen and Fishing Cactus). Fishing Cactus' Bruno Hurbain said they are "determined to create a new great Creatures chapter, both modern and respectful of what made it the best virtual life game in the first place." The game will be available for PC, Mac and iOS, and potentially free to play for all of them (Mac is uncertain). A "collector gift box full of surprises" is also planned. I wonder if there is an estimated release date. From what I remember most of the games, after C1, were released in less than 2 years, but that was all by the same company. My only hope is that, if this game does go ahead, that they add a new element to make Creatures... fresh. After playing the series for over a decade, I'm personally starting to find it a bit stale. What will we get? Judging by their past games, I would not get your hopes up too high - but who knows? It's like how the owners of Batman do not lose the rights to Batman just because they let one company make one game. I don't know, and the press release made no mention of that feature. Maybe we should gather such questions and then ask the creators. After all, there may still be time to influence the focus of the game. The idea of a Creatures 4 is awesome. But the picture screams, "bright, colorful, silly, shallow Ipad game", and that looks like all this company is used to making. Just look at the artwork on their pages and games. It's goofy. :/ I wouldn't be surprised if you hatched Norns by launching their eggs, while trying to rack up points... >.<   silvak     5/18/2011  1 It's true that is does look very kid-like from the pic, but the article focuses on it's complexities and that it's not your average simulator. To me it implies a depth that continues with the "integrity" of the creatures series. We'll just have to see how well they implement them. Personally, I wouldn't mind cuter "kiddie" graphics as long as the gameplay was good. If it's as moddable as the current games, I don't think the graphics would pose much of a problem at all.   Moe     5/18/2011 I'm also concerned about what they might have to sacrifice to make it playable on mobile devices. I don't like the idea of a lightweight engine dripping out chunky graphics and simplistic code just to make it mobile. :/ I'm excited, definitely, and you all are right, the article seems to uphold the spirit of Creatures, but as we've discussed for years, there are dangers of an outside development team stepping in... I'm an Android user now. and don't forget you can send a Tweet to Fishing Cactus to say hi Don AmberCreatures   Norngirl     5/19/2011 I realy started my day horrible and then I come and see this O.o Somehow I am suprised,but yet I don't wanna hope too much (know there been many various games been promised then in the middle of it - got canceled..or something along the line) But Im going to just sit and watch and see what this will lead to XD I myself must say - as I saw the site,I was thinking "Flash styled games? " But then again,I can't confirm it as the games didn't work here,took me to a error site.. I would say that just judging by theyre more cartoonish graphic,dosn't meant theyre enjoyable,eh? And for my part - that concept pic is just plain adoreable! I don't think at all it's kiddy - actuly C1 was often mistaken for being a kiddy game - but it wasn't,and it's the charm of both graphic and gameplay who catched most of us : D I myself drawed my own concept of a C4 - from the norn starter looks,ettins,grendels,kits and more stuff I could squeeze from my mind. I just didn't scan and showed it yet..cos well it maybe just be a waste or someone else maybe steals it and call it theyres >_>' But who knows...maybe I put it on my DA gallery *shrugs* I think I allways hoped for a C4 to be at least: *in 3D - no more platform scrolling, except - theres a camera mode who allow you to veiw it like that (for those prefering it) *something close to C1/C2 style (both for norns and the world albia) *mixture blending more true - think sim3 like *visible night/day cycles + weather As for mobile....Android here..to be exact, a Xperia 10 sony ericsson >_< and that dang annoying thing can't run most of the games I want *sigh* (wanted specialy to try Pocket creature..as most of the other pet games I can find for my mobile is most booooring X_X Shame on you Iphone to steal all cool stuff >_< ) *vanish and stay in shadows to see what this will lead to *   Sanely Insane RisenAngel Manager     5/19/2011 Wow, Gameware decided to throw us a bone. Granted, I'm with Moe on being skeptical about it. I'm not sure if this company will be able to make a game that lives up to the original trilogy without Steve Grand's guidance. This is so exciting! First Grandroids, then this? This is one of the best things ever! I hope they sell it in the states (Texas, namely) Because my mother said she won't buy it for me from the internet. I was in tears by the time I'd finished the article! I am so happy! I'd also had my own version of Creatures 4. It starts out flat, on the Capillata, but only Muco and the heat pan are working because it crashed onto Sphericus and you have to find a way out of the ship! Well, this is definately something I'll watch! So excited!!! I'm also finding the timing a little suspicious, but it is good to know there aren't just skeletons in rags of clothing sitting in cobwebbed chairs at Gameware headquarters.
