Hello. After much searching, I have finally found my Creatures disc! Like a fool, I dared to hope it may work on my computer. Of course, it did not. A message pops up, informing me that Creatures is for Windows 95 only.
Is there ANY way I could get Creatures to work on Windows 7? C12DS, great as it is, just can't cut it. It is a bitter blow, finding the disc after all this time and having the hope that has feebly survived all these years that I may yet play Creatures again brutally shattered like the delicate skull of a sparrow being crushed by a falling army tank. |

I managed to get Creatures 1 installed on a Windows Vista laptop after a good deal of installation steps... Unfortunately, I didn't write down the steps, and forgot how I got it to work. Drat! I do remember that it took quite some time, but I wish I had taken the time to write down even a general idea of how to install.
Have you considered purchasing Creatures: The Albian Years from GOG? This offers an easy-to-install version of C1, and also includes C2. I know that one of the main issues is that the C1 Emergency Kit was not included, but there are ways around it, if I'm not mistaken.
I hope you get Creatures 1 installed and working soon! It's such an amazing game, and it will be nice to have another player enjoying the game that started it all! Good luck!

I will try to search online for possible ways to get it installed. It's been so long since I have played it... ._. |

It works on windows 7 if you change the compatibility mode of the setup to windows 95.
At least, it did for me

This is probably really basic stuff, but how do I do that!? |

I believe you need to right-click on the file and choose Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab, and you should see some options for choosing to run the program in compatibility mode. I'm using Vista, though, so I'm not entirely sure if that process is correct for Windows 7. I hope that helps a bit!

There was no compatibility tab, so I just searched "compatibility" and came up with a program labelled something like "run programs designed for other Windows" or something. Unfortunately, this only seems to work on already installed programs, and I can't even install Creatures. |

If I were in your shoes, I'd take advantage of the festive season and ask for GOG's Albian Years as a Christmas present - and it's only $4.99 right now!
Saying that, I do hope you find a way to get your original copy working somehow. Sorry, I have no experience with Windows 7.

Thank'ee, but I am sure there is some sideways and tricky way to get it installed. |
