Docking Station&creatures 3
-------------------------
The Norns die but don't reproduce.. even the grendel and ettin mother has stopped laying eggs.
They don't seem to like to mate either, though they are chi-chi's. I have checked them all for heavy metals, no norns that left the docking station came back, so I don't know why.
One of them, the sole female of a popn of 6, which was once 24, has been pregnant for 2 hours now, she is a chi-chi purebred youth of about 8hrs I believe. This can't be a family trait, she is gen 8, has had many offspring, so have her offspring and siblings. Her great-great-whatever-grandad of gen 3 is a 20hr old youth and in great shape.
None of the norns so much as has a cold.
I think the game is just not removing past genomes, and so they still count as population. I have come to this decision as I have had many other worlds with the same problem.
Has this problem been addressed by the creators, or what? I have updates one&two.
Cheers,

Check the genetics folder in your world's folder then.

Thanks for a quick reply!
I already had, hence why I got the conclusion.
Does this mean I have to go through them all and find my creatures genomes and delsete the rest? Awww. |

Look in your DS Bootstrap folder and check the age of the DS creatureBreeding.cos file. It should be around January 2004. Are you comfortable with using the CAOS Command Line?

Check your population limit if it is in DS. You can find it in the options. |

A botched population limit wouldn't stop the laying of eggs, just the hatching.
Have you tried removing the pregnant creatures to another world? |

I tried her in another world- still no luck. I'm gonna have to kill her off in her world then. I should introduce some new females from the egg-layer, some fresh, template blood might help a bit. But this is just one problem.
I am willing to try CAOS code, I'm not afraid of coding. This must be a glitch in the game.
On another note, I might try to engineer some norns that abort dead eggs since I can't find the eggernator. Also something these creatures should have any way. |

don't kill her off, just use the eggernator to extract. I'll upload it if you don't have it |

Try exporting all your creatures from a world (no creatures, no corpses, no eggs) and using the CAOS Command Line
| ject "DS creatureBreeding.cos" 7 |
This will reinstall your breeding scripts. Honestly I think it would be better to make a new world and to try that instead.

I'll try these out then edit my findings.
The reason why i don't make a new world is because this has happened to EVERY world, including a test world I created before my last post. |

If it happens in every world then it's probably an issue with a .cos file--if the original .cos file is fudged then every new world will have that problem. Did you check the date of the file like Malkin suggested?

the date for the .cos file is the intall date. In DS instal files it is may 2001.
It is the install date as DS was patched with the v2 "ds to c3" patch on the main site.
As for the cluttered genetics directory and the minimal attic directory, I found a solution from minisauron- restart the game a few times and dead genomes will end up in the attic. Lesson: reload every few hours, thus wolfling and feral runs have problems. |
