Chapter 1: Sighting The Ship
A banshee not much older then the well known Lone Shee sighed. Was it her fault she was so different? No it wasn't. Was it her fault she was picked on constantly? No it wasn't. Was is her fault the teachers and even her parents would just say, "Toughen up." and walk off? No it wasn't, but that didn't stop her from feeling that way. She scratched the back of her head. She wasn't like the others. She didn't mess with machinery, she didn't fawn over the family grendels and she wasn't all that mean. What she did like to do though was have a few cups of tea when nobody was watching and set free any norns headed for biology class. Everyone would call her "Shee Girl". Truthfully she didn't care about the nickname itself only what it was supposed to mean. Boy was she surprised when she looked through her telescope only to see something attatched to the Ark. "Oh my..." She saw the way it is was built. It looked a lot like the Ark itself, but much smaller. She focused the lenses more and zoomed in. That was when she noticed earthy looking bumps attatched to the unknown craft. It didn't exactly look like Shee technology which all Banshee tech was based off of. She stepped away from the telescope and collasped on her bed. She was freaking out. What was going on? What on Sphericus is that thing? Why did it look so familiar? How did it get there? Slowly her eyelids started to droop. She looked at the clock. "2:30 in the morning? That can't be right..." She yawned and sleep soon took over.
Chapter 2: Won't Listen
When she awoke the next morning everything thing seemed normal. She quickly ran back to her telescope and looked out the skylight. Nothing. She couldn't see the Ark or the ship that was attatched to it. Was it all just a dream? No it couldn't have been. She saw it and nothing could change that. Sighing she walked downstairs only to be greeting by her mother. Actually it was more of the grunt than a greeting, but her mom was never much of a morning person. "Hey Mom I have to talk to you about something." Her mother looked over her shoulder, "What is it?" Looking straight into her mothers eyes she told the story. "So you think you saw something attatched to the Ark? Honey you were up past 1 AM you must have just had a weird dream." She groaned, "Mom I really saw it! Something was attatched to the Ark and it looked like one of our ships!" Her mother shook her head, "Nonsense. Our ships aren't even allowed to go near the Ark and I doubt we have someone stupid enough on this whole planet to even try." Sighing again she knew she couldn't argue with her mother on that. She mumbled a quiet, "I'll just be going now." before walking out the door and heading off to school.
Anybody like it? It was pretty quick overall.

It's definitely an intriguing concept, seeing things from the Banshees' point of view. But I'm a bit confused: you say the girl is around the same age as the Lone Shee, but it sounds like she's not an adult yet since she's living with her mother and going to school (while I was under the impression that the Lone Shee, who worked in a lab and didn't seem to live with anyone, was an adult). How old is she supposed to be?
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

I'll get the next few chapters out soon and that will help explain everything better, but yes she is an adult. Early stages, but still an adult(AKA: 23-25). Always how old I pictured the Lone Shee. Not exactly as old as other people might have pictured him though. Anyways as Banshee's are so interested in technology and in general Shee enjoy tamping with their DNA I pictured a college like school setup thats goes on for a number of years after regular school would stop(Usually two or three years more then the four years of college). Advanced learning pretty much the same as normal science, biology and stuff like that.
On the still living with her mother thing I pictured them always keeping close and it would be pretty normal to live five years or more with ones parents.
Hope that blockish amount of text helped.

Great story! It seems a bit odd that the Banshee would give such accordance to the Shee - wouldn't they rewrite the history books to make the Shee seem like stupid whiney losers? I think it's very interesting

Malkin: They do actually though not as much as they used too. Most history books still say that, but others leave them out entirely.
Also sorry for a lack of updates and chapters. I'm having some writers block currently and I don't want to give you guys cruddy writing to read.

I agree with agentrok - quite often the author takes a harsher view on their own work than a reader does. Personally I find a good way to get over writer's block is to put the story you're struggling with aside and focus instead on writing something else. You may find then that the ideas come to you easier whilst you're working on a different piece. I thought it was an enjoyable read though! You've definitely got something good to work on there. |
