Hello!
I have always had an interest in artificial life,
which not so long ago brought me to the Creatures games.
Now it's a staple of my spare time, at the moment I've been trying to selectively breed all three species, going for traits a higher intelligence or immune system; many other things like certain behaviors, too.
Bringing that up on CC I got recommended to this site,
very nice place.

Welcome! Always great to find someone new picking up the Creatures games! There really is a lot of potential with them, and it's surprising that there aren't more people who try them out. Good luck with your breeding projects! If you're in need of any tips or have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Enjoy Creatures Caves!

Hi, I'm brand spanking new to this whole creature's franchise. I only heard of it when people discussed the Ai of black and white's pets.
It has been hard trying to get used to the controls and finding files but I think I've gotten the hang of it. I love all things aquatic so I'm loving the aquanorns/seaettins/maraquan grendels/undine etc
I really hope Creature's Online becomes playable at some point even if its just closed beta/beta. I'm looking foward to aquanorns on there!

Hello and welcome to Creatures Caves, Abzu. I hope you enjoy this website, and the wonderful world of Creatures; which games have you tried so far? You're truly in for a treat, I often wish that I was new to the series again for that reason. And as you probably discovered, our Downloads section has plenty of aquatic-themed addons to offer! |

Welcome to Creatures Caves and Creatures in general, Abzu! It certainly can be a bit of a complex game to start off it, particularly C3/DS. There are tons of great resources and downloads here on the site. If it helps any, I have my own list of essential agents and additions for C3/DS. Since you're very much into the aquatic side of the game, I might also recommend checking out the Colortrue Pearl Mermaid Norns. There are a lot of things to discover and enjoy in the Creatures games: I hope you have a lot of fun, and enjoy being a part of the community!

Jessica, did I just not read carefully enough or are you missing a geat patch? The catalogue files are a must-have and some voice files don't hurt either.
Sorry, this is not meant to be shameless advertising for myself
In fact I would rather recommend you to put in Ghosthande's Gaius, since they also have previously mentioned voice files.
Or.... do those Black Blob thingies have voice files?

Hi everyone!... A little about me: I briefly played C3/DS a few years ago after having heard about the whole project and had a lot of fun messing with them and experimenting a little with their genetics. I've always been fascinated with AI and A-Life, and as a programmer, I just had to take a look at the Creatures as soon as I got wind of their existence and how sophisticated they are.
I recently got the urge to revisit the games after hearing about the upcoming Creatures Online and Grandroids projects, and I am happy to see there is still such a vibrant community devoted to the Creatures games even so long after they came out. I think the creatures are fascinating and groundbreaking experiments into artificial life that are really unrivaled in scope even to this day.
I just got Creatures Albian Years and Exodus; I'm trying to start from the beginning this time with C1, as I would like to experience all the series has to offer. I'm also noticing that a lot of people seem to enjoy the earlier games more. They definitely have their own styles and some very nice breeds, objects, and worlds... the creatures are quite different in looks and behavior, but they certainly don't seem inferior. If anything I like some of them even better than the C3 creatures.

Hello! I downloaded DS years ago, probably when it was new, had no idea what I was doing. Played with it a bit but not long enough to find the player community. That computer croaked, I moved house, life went on.
Fast forward to last night: I came across this forum, checked Amazon and ended up purchasing Albian Years and Exodus. So here I am at total noob level.
My first question is where to start. Should I start with C1 and learn the basics or jump into C3/DS? If I start with C1 will I be able to import my norns into the later programs?
Currently I am reading everything I can find and watching videos. I want to be prepared before I hatch anyone this time. |

Welcome Barb! Sadly you can't import Norns from C1 to C3/DS. You can import Norns from C1 to C2, but I wouldn't suggest playing C2 if your just starting out. Both C1 and DS undocked are equally good starting points. It really depends on what you want from a Creatures game in the long run. Do you want to nurture some Creatures (C1) or do you want to watch some Creatures (C3/DS). The Norns in C1 will need your help to survive, but they are much simpler then the Norns in C3. The Norns in C3/DS can mostly take care of themselves, but there are more mods/agents for C3/DS then any of the other games. Personally, I say try them both.
