Sword Art Online. It's superficially similar to .hack//SIGN; instead of one person being stuck in a virtual reality MMO, it's the whole playerbase! Death in the game means death in the real world, and they can't take off their VR gear without frying their brains. The creator says he'll only let people log out once they've cleared the 100 dungeon floors. Started out very interesting, but around episode 8 it becomes this weird chronicle of romance.
Not that romance is bad, but it's executed badly here. How certain characters *ahem weaponsmith* fall for and interact with each other is just so... rushed, cheesy, unbelievable. That people's consciousnesses are being held ransom by this one madman and are dying everyday fighting virtual mobs becomes an afterthought. Two characters in an earlier episode argue about the ethics of a plan to distract enemies with NPC villagers, and we never see whether they execute the plan, whether the villagers are really alive and sentient, that sort of thing. It's like they switched writers in the middle of the series.
I heard the narrative quality drops when the "romance arc" starts being the focus, so I'm considering dropping it here. |

Space Dandy. Great new comedy anime. Funny, cool, nice art, hip, loving it so far.
Razander, saw that sword art online series, I agree with everything you said.. it starts out very promisingly, and has a great premise, but they seem to let it down or switch gears halfway through, seemingly glossing over or ignoring the really interesting parts of the original premise in exchange for parts I felt were weakly written. The romance and character interactions and development definitely could have been done better... The animation is stunning though.

The reviews I read mentioned the second half was weaker, but it was still worth watching. Now that I know it really does gloss over the parts of the interesting parts of the narrative, I'm dropping it. It's a shame, The animators really did put a lot of effort into it! I wonder what was up with the sudden butt-shots though.
My girlfriend has been itching for a good comedy anime actually, so I'll be picking up Space Dandy. |

I'm slowly going through the old Gargoyles cartoon. It was my favorite back in the day, and I don't want to run out of episodes to quickly.

I loved Gargoyles... I'm also a Star Trek nerd and one of the things I loved about that show is that it has so many voice actor cameos and regulars from various Star Trek series... Riker, Troi as regulars, Worf, Picard, Janeway, Q as cameos or recurring characters (and I'm sure I'm missing some others)... It's the most I've seen any of them work together outside of their shows... all I can think is the Casting Director must have been a big Star Trek fan.
I'm watching some old film segments, like this one they used to show in schools:

Anime. I've been watching Petite Princess Yucie with a buddy and on my own time I'm watching Full Metal Alchemist and Pokemon - Indigo League on Netflix. Up next is probably Digimon Tamers.
Besides 'professional productions' I've been watching a lot of Yogscast. I have a lot of adventure maps to watch.
And I'm so used to my husband's snoring that I need to put on a GameGrumps playlist to go to sleep.

kezune wrote: Up next is probably Digimon Tamers. Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. I recommend the original Japanese over the English dub, which made some very nonsensical script changes. The show's not perfectly animated (beware the hand of Toshio Deguchi), but the writing definitely carries it through. And there aren't any stupid filler episodes either.
I'd been looking for good romance anime, but the ones that were recommended to me had forced drama and/or weird love triangles where people fought over lovers like objects. After hearing the overture of my beloved Revolutionary Girl Utena (which I highly recommend watching!), I am currently watching Aoi Hana (Blue Flowers).
PS. Yes Space Dandy was awesome. The zombie apocalypse and the "color out of space" episodes were my favourites. |

Babylon 5, awesome space opera television series. GF and I are watching an episode a day. We're hoping to finish it before the end of the year.
We both recently saw Train of Life. It's a poignant tragicomedy, if anyone's in the mood for silliness and humanity we recommend it. After it's sunken in, it's even better on the second viewing. |
