Creatures Caves

Hello CC community!

Long time fan, first time posting. Currently in relapse from my everlasting C1 addiction.
I play C1, C2, C3/DS; preferably C1, although I’m starting to get used to C12DS now.

My experience with this game all started with a *ripped version that my dad got for me as a kid. *shame on him [nwink]

I still remember watching that opening movie. I was immediately hooked.
Barely in my tween years, this game was more than just another Tamagotchi; it was basically my learning foundation on how to operate on a PC in general, for instance: figuring out how to locate folder locations, knowing which files were meant to go where, what downloading vs. uploading meant, and WTF a .zip file was and WTF was I supposed to do with it?! Needless to say, I had many "a-ha!" moments playing this game back in the day.
The best part about the entire Creatures experience, hands down, was (and still) discovering the online Creatures Community, getting to know its members and contributors, and being able to learn alongside them as we journeyed together through this wonderful game. Helen, Slink, Treesprite, Steerpike, Gordnorn, Clucky, Spotling, and countless others. These were my teachers and colleagues; my friends and play-mates; the social media of my childhood. *parents never let me have AOL [noddeye]

I only recently became familiar again with my beloved past-time by accident actually when I was referred to GOG.com for cheap games, and was elated when I found the Creatures series there. The very first thing I did after installation was hop onto good ole' Google to see who was still up and running so that I could have my Encyclopedia Nornica back! To my dismay, I found that many of my old favorites had long since shut down. But there were still a few out there holding out, plus some new sites that I had never seen before. (BTW, what's up with Albia2000, site is still up but doesn't work?)
It was only just this year that I found out about C12DS (I was so tickled, I actually squealed IRL when I got C12DS working on my Exodus GOG.com version!), CCSF, and the soon-to-be-released C4.
My only regret was never being able to successfully become a COBler like so many of my CC heroes. I just never got the jist of the CAOS language until I was much, much older (when all the third-party agent tools either got lost in cyberspace or became incompatible and obsolete, fml). I actually did manage to get the Genetics Kit to work, along with CAOS 1.002 for DS, and D-DNA Analyzer, but the one I was really hoping would work was BoBCob. (I’m on Windows7, and I’ve tried the XP version from AmberCreatures, but I still can’t seem to get it working. I think my GOG version might be the problem. If anyone knows, please message me!) [ngrin]

Nevertheless, I’m still content to play the game with or without third-party add-ons, and I hope this game and its AWESOME online community will stay alive and well for my own kids to enjoy for years to come. [nsmile]
