Since it seems like many of us have played or currently play the Petz games, naturally a discussion should ensue! I know there are several active forums/sites that exist, yet this community has some of the greatest people out there. Additionally, I'm one who rather enjoys the safe environment here where we know that inappropriate content won't get mixed in.
So, discuss away! I was also thinking that perhaps we could have some sort of Petz show series with rotating judges, or something along those lines. I know of the PKC, yet I also recall the old days where there were dozens of sites constantly holding shows and handing out image prizes.
I own Petz 3, and have been involved with a lot of breeds. I'm trying to get back into playing, and need to decide on some breeds! I'm leaning towards Sheepdogs, although I'm afraid to get into breeding... I'm notorious for abusing PetzA.
Fun fact: I was a beta tester for Dogz 4!

I miss playing Petz. :c I have Dogz 3 and Petz 5, but they don't work on my computer. I always love love LOVED the Pugs. I used to extensively breed the two different colours of pugs. One time, I had a fawn pug with a black rump and legs. He looked like he was wearing pants! His name was Wiglaf. c:

Just started Petz 4. Have fallen in love with it. I have windows 7 - it works without many issues. |

Darby, have you looked into getting PetzA? This is how I got Petz 3 working on my newer computer, and I've heard that it works very well. I have a love-hate relationship with the automatic speed aging and breeding features... Excellent for breeding projects, but I feel like I'm completely ruined when it comes to actually raising any Petz naturally. I think that might be a fun challenge for me to try next!
I discovered that I still have all of the dogz listed here... Not sure if I want to keep them, though I hate thinking of just deleting them. Any ideas on what to do with them?

I say just keep them for futureness - I've only had my game for three days and I already have somewhere around 60 pets in random folders.. a general catz folder, general dogz, dragondogz, dragonz, lips, ratz...
I use PetzA aswell; I have instant birth on always, but I'm trying to raise them naturally after that. It takes three days naturally to have a birth, and who knows how long after, so I'd rather cut some time and see if my babies are horrid mutants first, right? |

Oh yay, this thread was made! A question about shows, should they be held in this thread to save space, or have their own topics to keep things organised? Either way I can PM you my show guide if you want so you can put it in the first post, or I can just put it in my own reply. Whichever you prefer.
I like to breed/show rough collies (3rd party breed), but I recently lost all of them due to a computer crash, so I've had to start from scratch. I own Petz 2, Petz 4, and Petz 5, though currently only Petz 4 is installed.
I too find it hard to let my petz grow naturally with PetzA installed. I'm just impatient. |

I love petz but I haven't had time to play it for a long, long time. I'm hoping to have some time to get into it again after the move or while I'm staying with my in-laws, though.
I love hexing and breeding show pets, though.

I like the Petz series but get bored with it quicker then any other game in existence. Plus my Catz are a bit predictable after a few years of playing with them. Whenever I do play, I work on my purebred Main Coons(with PetzA of course).
I do have a small group that I raise naturally, and they are some of my favorite Petz. If there's going to be a few cat shows around here then I'd be happy to enter a few of mine. Or if it's going to be mostly dog shows I can train my one dog. XD

I used to play Petz 5 a lot. I particularly liked the Alley Cats, and I would try and see how weird I could make them. I would also occasionally adopt a few Jack Russells and try to train them to do tricks in the monkey temple place. Other than that, I mostly just pampered them.
Sadly, I can't play anymore, as the game was doing terrible things to the registry, and changing the icons for other things, so my dad uninstalled it.

I was thinking that some sort of separate site might be best for Petz shows. A new topic for each one will make things easier to organize, but I don't want to end up taking over the Strangeo section! Let me look into a couple of options, and we can figure things out from there.
Remember training with treats, and how dogz could learn a different trick for each movement? That was a silly part of Petz, but sometimes those painfully monotonous things were the most fun!

I think I've been into Petz longer than I have Creatures - and that's saying something!
I started off with Petz 5 - purchased it a short while after its release, back when the Petz website was still alive and kicking and Petz Player still worked - and actually moved down from there; I've got copies of Petz 5, 4, and 2. Luckily Kappsune and I still have an old '98 dinosaur sitting down in our basement, so we're able to play Petz 2, and Oddballz - which I'd definitely recommend to anyone who's interested in Petz.
I only learned about the show circuits a few years ago, though, so most if not all of the sites had gone down by then. It really makes me feel like I've missed out when I take a look at all of the discussion pertaining to the more popular old show sites. It really does sadden me that the PKC is the only active site around, too. Honestly, the users there aren't super friendly, and most of them have about a hundred Petz each, so the show rings are overloaded with Nova and the other judges' Petz; they tend to leave the littler guys like me at a statistical disadvantage.
I'd be really interested in shows - they'd be a fun thing for us all! I was thinking about a separate site too, so poor Rascii doesn't have to deal with all of our chatter of posing and genetics and eyeshines, haha.
Also, I've long since been interested in learning how to hex things - Petz, Toyz, Clothez, etc. If anyone minds, could you guys possibly PM me some nice tutorials/tips? I'm sure you guys, of all people, know of some! |

Does anyone have an idea of what breeds are used?
I love the idea of showing Shelter Dogz or Moggies, myself. |

Petz is an awesome game! Like Hawk, I think I have also been into petz longer than Creatures!
There is one other (And probably better and friendlier) petz forum. Its called RKC. The community there is probably about as friendly as it is here! ^-^ Its really active to.
I'm on there quiet a bit as Amradel.
You know what I have started breeding on petz?
Anime kids cross with other animals... >.<
They end up so funny looking and kinda horrific! Its so fun though. xD
I have petzA and with it I use lots of separate profiles... Some for my naturally raising petz and some for not. It works pretty well!

I've been breeding Dragonz crossed with random dogs for several generations - They're pretty neat if I do say so myself. Some of them turn out really pretty. |

It turned out being an anime kid with four legs...
It was pretty weird! XD

I started with petz 3, but most of my petz have been converted to petz 5 at this point, although I still have some petz 3 backups of those converted petz.
I've never really gotten into shows, because almost all the ones I saw were for pure bred petz, usually the more realistic breedz. Most of the petz I like to breed are the fantasy breedz & I usually end up cross breeding them to see how weird the results, colors & markings get. So I don't think I have many petz that would even be able to be entered in shows.

I think I've lost track of how many petz I've gained from all those experimental breedings, but I don't have much luck putting them up for adoption. I think my choice of breedz tends to be too weird for most people. Of course it doesn't help that some of my favorite breedz are no longer available anymore. |

I started with Petz 5 and have been playing on and off since. I've also since acquired (and prefer) Petz 4, and own Petz 1 and 2. I'm only missing Petz 3. Yeah, I'm a game collector. I think I picked up Docking Station for the first time after I fell in love with Petz, though. Good times. I'd post pictures of mine but I've actually got a website for them (that I haven't updated in a year).

Thanks, I think that was an 11th generation cross breed. Utahraptor & gryphon are the two main breedz I was working with for that crossbreed, but I know I added other breedz into the experiment to try & get other colors & markings as well. I ended up with a pretty large horde of them, & some of them even have wings. I wouldn't mind putting some of them up for adoption if you or any one else wants some of them.
I hope I didn't just accidentally kill the topic.... |

I really enjoyed the Petz games too! I started with the Dutch version of Catz 3, which - sadly - wasn't compatible with the English downloads. After some time a friend of mine bought Petz 5 and installed it on our computer too. She had copies of her Petz she bred on a floppy disk, so we could play with them. Later I also got Petz 4 with the voice recognition software, which I didn't get to work. Nowadays I really miss the Petz games, and the new Petz games are bad in my opinion. I used to visit a website called Petz.WS, but last time I searched for it, it was down. I have a prehistoric computer with Windows XP on it, so I may try to install Petz again. I also played Oddballz, which is available on Don's site. (Yes, the same Don. ) I also enjoyed Carolyn's breeds and conversions.

eprillos - You can make it work on Windows 7, and possibly eight, with carolyn's alternative fooler thing for petz 4. That's the version I use; my Petz CD i got like last year won't install. |

Petz 4 worked fine for me, only the voice recognition software didn't. I guess that's the reason why it disappeared in Petz 5.

Hard-copy CD of Petz 5 runs for me on Windows 7, no special work done. What's strange is I actually can't get it to work on my '98, haha! And a digital copy of Petz 4 works perfectly well, too.
I have never managed to get the voice recognition software working. :/
I agree that Mea's raptor thing is super cool. Look at that raptor baby. So fuzzy. So gentle. So rustic. |

Sorry.... I couldn't resist sharing a few of their pictures, I adore my raptor collection a little too much. ![[ntongue] [ntongue]](/images/smilies/emot_tongue.gif) |

Awwww... cute puppy Hawk, I generally don't have much luck with hexing markings,

I always seem to make them too small so the pattern doesn't turn out right.

I seem to have more luck hexing horns & spikes,

& with crossbreeding for interesting markings.

. . . . . . .
Ummmm... wow Kezune, wow. None of my hexes compare to your hex in progress... I'm not even sure if any of my weirder crossbreeds could compare to your interesting looking monster.

Skags aren't my own creation, though. But.. My goodness. That fish with legs is awesome looking! I'm awful at coming up with interesting or pretty crossbreeds. Have you played with Vickie's Lepitaur file, though? I LOVE selective breeding those guys.

Heheh, yup. I adopted a pile of Lepitaurs with the plan to breed & crossbreed them. I even had a pile of story ideas for fitting them in with my other petz, but I never did get around breeding the Lepitaurs, or finishing those stories. |

Lepituars are like my favorite breed besides the original I had a pure-bred line going for a while, and they were utterly adorable. I had a pack of them that roamed around and "hunted" some of the wild animal toys. Plus my regular cats would visit them and stuff. <3

Will this PetzA thing get it working on a Windows 7? Also; is there a patch or something that will turn Dogz 3 into Petz 3? My mum did it once when I was younger, but that was on a Windows 98 computer.

I used to have Catz 3, in which I managed to get somewhat of a dynasty going and even keep one cat, an alley cat/longhair (I forget the exact breed name; it was the Persian-like breed that wasn't actually a Persian) crossbreed named Magoo, around for years. That said, normally my attempts ended with either me getting bored (which resulted in all the cats running away) or having so many cats that the computer broke.
My sister had Dogz 4, which she only rarely let me play. I think I wound up breaking it too by virtue of having too many dogs (and pigs; I loved the pigs).
Unfortunately, I lost the CD for it a long while ago. Considering all the discussion that's popping up now, I really want to get back into it (especially considering that I never got the chance to mess with third-party breeds and whatnot).
I'm considering hunting down a copy of Petz 4 on Amazon or something, although I'm also considering Petz 5 (and wondering if it's any good, considering it was produced by a different studio than the first four). If I have any luck with that and/or finding my Catz 3 CD again, I'll let you guys know.

I definitely recommend Petz 5. It lets you have litters of 1-4 puppies/kittens at a time.
So do I install the Petz game and then download PetzA?
