BridgeCluster Grendeltail Pack C3DS Norn Lurhstaap | 3/10/2016 | 4 | This is the pack containing the offspring of the Bridge Cluster, a group of Grendeltails who inexplicably tried to start a cluster in the Bridge area rather than in a metaroom containing... I don't know... food and toys. Those might've been useful. The majority of the adults in the group died of starvation before I discovered them and relocated them to save their foolish little lives. But they died surrounded by eggs, and the parentage shows the eggs were bred by Bridge Cluster members. The babies in this pack are what hatched from those eggs. Note that the lowest gen in the pack is 38, but most are 40, 41, or 42, with one 43.
Anyway, there are nine baby Norns in this pack, all totally untrained and mostly unexperienced, plus an adult who is the father of one of the baby Norns (and apparently the mate of another Grendeltail I uploaded, Pugilist Axe, as she's the mother). There's also a text file with some brief information and observations concerning each Norn in the .zip. There might be some Magma Norn sprites in them as well, and I might be wrong about the Bruin, but I'm pretty sure the sprite listing above is accurate.
As far as what these babies are like, I have no idea. They may be quite normal as high-gen Grendeltails go, or they might be bizarre mutants, or a mix of both. Given their parents are all Bridge Clusterers, though, if nothing else I expect them to carry whatever mutations caused their parents to do the most un-Grendeltail-like thing possible - namely, leave their cluster behind, ditch their home metaroom, and go wandering off into the Shee Ark. Of course they formed a new cluster elsewhere, which shows they're not totally devoid of typical Grendeltail behaviors, but the strike-off-elsewhere thing is very atypical. In particular, one of these Norns is the daughter of Pugilist Axe as previously mentioned, which means she may well be carrying some of whatever weird genes Pugilist herself has.
Good luck with this lot! I'd love to hear how they turn out. You're of course free to just download and play with them, but feedback is always highly appreciated! |

Very interesting! That did not occur to me as the cause of the problem. I wish I knew which room(s) the clusterers migrated from to begin with - it's quite possible they came out of the Norn Meso, crossed the umbilical, then had no idea how to get home again, since at that time in that world the Norn Meso had the largest Grendeltail cluster by far and while Grendeltails are pretty crowding resistant, if there was going to be a big migration, that's the place I'd expect it to be out of because of so many Norns in such a small space. I will definitely check that out and see what happens. Although FWIW I often isolate groups of Norns in various rooms and then hide the doors to keep the gene pools separate. But in worlds where I allow them to wander this should be very helpful.

Luhrstaap... I'm curious... have you tried installing the 'Umbilical Fix' from Vampess' C3/DS fixes? I have a feeling this cluster of yours has a common problem where they smell the food from the meso and are starving and hanging out there because they can't figure out how to use the umbilical to get to it...
By default creatures see the umbilical as an elevator instead of as a hatch, and don't think of elevators as things that let them travel between meta-rooms, so they never think of using it to follow food smell (they don't see any food below them, just smell it through the umbilical, so they don't think of going 'down' to get to it, just through a door, and they can't see any doors). Vampess' fix changes the umbilical so creatures can see it as a meta-room door and can navigate both ways through it properly. I think you will see your creatures all using your ship much better if you install it. All the fixes on that page are worth looking into really.

BTW, just for what it's worth, at the time of upload, 43 is the highest existing Grendeltail generation in my worlds.
