Wearing the "Evenstar" (the necklace which Arwen gives to Aragorn) myself, I have to admit Lord of the Rings is definitely my favorite [nblush]

I don't have a preference. XD They're both so different it's hard for me to compare them. I guess it depends on my moods. I read the books instead of saw the movies.

I definitely think the LOTR movies are more fun. The Harry Potter movies are vastly inferior to the books...

LOTR takes more...merit. It just has so much more information, a whole world created, languages, creatures, and Tolkien put his heart and life in it. Not saying Rowling didn't love what she was creating, but we heard a lot about how she was getting tired of her own main character...

I always appreciate a vast, detailed world more than one main character story.
I do understand that the Harry Potter movies are more fun to watch.

Apples and oranges, I think.

Harry Potter is at its core a children's/teen series, focused on a narrow storyline and the main cast of characters.

LOTR is an epic that focuses heavily on building a whole world with its own mythology and history, and the characters are sort of along for the ride, vessels for telling another great chapter in the history of Middle Earth rather than being the centre of the story themselves.

So really, the two have very little in common, besides both being of the fantasy genre. I enjoy both, for different reasons.

Also, I vote for secret option #4: A Song of Ice and Fire. ;)

To be honest I don't think there is really a comparison to be made as they are both completely different styles of fantasy and written for different audiences.

I enjoyed both for what they were :)

Harry Potter. c:
Taking common beliefs as to what witches and wizards do/look like, such as, wands, robes, giant beards, flying on broomsticks, and turning it into something awesome and more believable.
LOTR was great, but I don't understand why they couldn't have done certain things, like fly on the birds and drop the ring into the mountain instead of traveling for so long.
And another thing for me is character names. I can actually remember HP's character names.
Ron. Harry. Hermione. James. Lily. etc.
And then LOTR is all like;
Meriadoc. Aragorn. Legolas. Denethor. Faramir. Boromir. Elrond. Celeborn. etc
and I'm just like, "Can we back up plz." Haha, but I guess that could be my problem.
Both are still great though. c:

I can't really decide. I love how LOTR has all the wonderful myths and stories and its own world, but HP also has a great story, and you don't need to know the backstory to be able to enjoy it. I also love the animals, like Hedwig and Buckbeak.
