I'm running a world with Easter Norns only, and cactuses are growing in this little divot near the lower level computer. I've never seen that happen before. They usually just grow in the elevator shaft. This world has been running for 10.5 hours and the norns have reached the 6th generation. |

That's the cool thing about Creatures 2, it conserves its nutrients. So you can actually terraform areas, intentionally or not. I can't speak to your situation specifically, but it's possible just enough light reaches down there, and enough nutrients have drifted, to now allow cacti to grow when they couldn't before.
