A black and white screenshot of the alpha version of Creatures, before the background model was created. I'm not sure where this image came from though I speculate that it came from a publication of some kind. Pictured is a newer build than the "Creatures Zero" that has been recovered recently. This image demonstrates what appears to be various mock-ups for the kits and applets that were being designed for what would become Creatures 1. It also depicts what appears to be the swamps of Loxley Mere, according to the mythography. I speculate that this area is what became the jungle area in the background model. I originally obtained this thanks to Norngirl, who had the image before I did. |

Upon further inspection of the programming diary, this may as well actually be the swamps of Loxley Mere. The deserts of volund were apparently in this version, as was the airship (the airship isn't in the leaked version!). The diary makes mention of other things, such as a volcano to the west and implementation of the unused wind direction variable, which was left in Creatures 1 to this day. Explicit mention of Outgard is also made in the diary. | |||
