This is my last-resort "I give up" post for this issue. I've never been able to get MNG Tools (MNGPlayer/Pad) to properly function on any computer I've ever tried to use it with. MNGPlayer throws an error and freezes on "loading" forever when I try to open a file, and MNGPad can open files but can't do anything useful due to the errors that pop up whenever I click anywhere in the box on the left. I'm currently trying to get them to run on Windows 10. I've tried everything GreenReaper linked here, and it either did nothing for my issue, or in the case of .NET 3.5 SP1, wouldn't open at all.
I'm open to suggestions for anything that might get MNG Tools to run or any alternative programs that may exist. |

when in doubt, stick it in a virtual machine... at least that's what I do. it hasn't failed me so far |

Tried a virtual machine, MNG tools still wouldn't run because .NET wasn't installed. I can't install that because the installer tries to download files, and the VM can't access the Internet for whatever reason. I'll mess with it some more and see if I can make any progress. |

Any updates? I got Internet working on the VM and managed to install the things I hadn't tried yet, but the behavior on a virtual machine running Windows XP is exactly the same as it is on my "main" computer.
Edit: I got it working! |

I just decided to reinstall MNG Tools since I wiped everything a few months ago. Since seven-months-ago me decided that not specifying the solution was a good idea, I'm back to say that I had to download an old version to be able to use it. Specifically, 1.1.20. |

The latest version does not work, you have to get the second to last. Yup.
Just so you know, I've found a couple issues: MNG player does not do randomness properly, it'll play samples in order while the engine randomizes aleatoric layers, and it won't do RandomPan properly, it'll randomize when you hit play but then play in that pan position all the time.
Another issue that had me stumped for a while is that you cannot set the volume as random when you initialize a layer, it'll play in MNGPlayer but not in the engine (it's funny- it'll still play all of the music down to that layer, even in the same track, but then ignore the rest of the script, including following layers and tracks). |
