But what do you guys think of the old Chaos Development? And the $14.99 for the metarooms, when the original game is now, what? $5 in a bargain bucket?
I personally dislike it, but that's because I don't like paying for anything. xD

I think at the time it may have been OK to charge for a really amazing metaroom (although I don't think Ostrova was particularly amazing). However, I don't think anyone would pay for the metarooms now, so they should probably be released for free.
Just my two cents.

I just bought Ostrova a couple of weeks ago. I also bought NG2 about a year ago. I'm pretty much neutral on the 'charging for metarooms' thing. I don't regret buying either of these rooms, but I think they should probably become free eventually. |

I bought both Ostrova and NG2 a few years ago. I lost both, and I really miss NG2. So yeah, I think they ought to be free by now.

They won't give you extra copies since you already paid?? What a rip.

Thing is, my father paid for it years ago, so I don't have any evidence at all that I purchased it. Except maybe the little agent I made to remove the weeds in the garden, but that just proves I had it, not that I bought it.

That's a pity, AquaShee.
You've got to think on the developer's side, though, that they would put a lot of work into their addon, and maybe they should be allowed to sell it, even though it is derivative of the original game. It would be very hard to make a completely new metaroom without any borrowed code or anything. Quite a lot of the early addons were not of comparable quality to CL's stuff, but these days a lot of addons are of comparable artistic quality, even if they come with bugs and arcane layers of patches. And then, too, why would the end user pay for something that's buggy as?
Wasn't it that in the very olden days of C1 development, there was some kind of a license floating about? You could sell your cobs through the CDN, but you had to pay CL a commission, or something?

I've never got them too be honest, but, would they be selling at all these days?
Not really active around these parts anymore. |

*shrugs*
i think it's funny that they're selling an addon for a game for more than the game that it adds to

Although, to be honest, the Gameware Shop packs probably cost more than the original game, these days. xD

Part of it too is that maybe it's because it's free/user made that the bugs seem especially bad? The original games all had their quirks, but they were patched up (including by fans) and no-one seems to really mind about the flaws now, you just know that you also install X, Y, and Z fixes when you reinstall your game.

It's a mental perception - something made by the official people MUST be better than something made by a fan like me. So flaws in the original are forgiven more readily than flaws in a fan-made addon.

In my experience it's the complete opposite. At least, on WoW Private Servers, people readily forgive the hosts for bugs and inconveniences, merely because they have no major tools for setting up the server and playing with the settings. However, on the main WoW servers, bugs are harshly reprimanded on the forums.
It may just be the old internet perceptual personal experience thing, where a single individual is likely to change your consideration of the group. =o

Maybe it's an accessibility thing? The original developers are more inaccessible, so the fan developers are more accountable than the official developers?
