Unfortunately with the way the Norn brain is built they can only think in terms of:
If A do B.
They can't think like:
If A then do B then C.
So unfortunately it's incredibly unlikely you'll be able to teach a Norn to push a vender so it can eat food. It's just too many steps for their little brains
On the plus side, Grandroids is meant to overcome this, with the creatures (theoretically) being able to make plans with 5 or 6 steps (theoretically it might be unlimited). |

I'm interested to know how the C1 brain/genome differs from C3, because C1 norns definitely could do vendors with a bit of careful training. I'm wondering if the problem is in the instincts though - in the same way that C3 norns seem to be lacking any instinct to play with toys when bored, though they'll push lift buttons or inanimate machinery for hours. |

The C1 carrot vendor seems like it stims the Norn and make a "food eaten" sound effect--it doesn't actually create a food item that sits there waiting to be eaten, so there doesn't seem like as much room for confusion.
C3/DS Norns definitely have an instinct to play with toys when bored... though elevator buttons and the like are sometimes more common than toys (DS comes with what, one toy?) so those instincts probably just get rewarded more often. They have instincts for pushing all three kinds of objects when bored; it just comes down to which is more accessible/is rewarded more often.

Three toys. The musicola, the robot and the commedia (although you have to get that out for them.) Plus the high-bounce balls in the injector.
C3/DS norns have an instinct to push vendors when hungry for fat, like I was saying in the other thread- has anyone noticed whether they have an easier time with food vendors than fruit/seed ones? (to be fair, I didn't even think of watching for that until just now!) |

I know the C1 carrot vendor is technically a vendor, though I wasn't really counting it in with the standard object-which-produces-another-object set of vendors. I routinely teach baby norns to use SteerPike's vendors with no problem - the trick seems to teach "push vendor, push food" and not reward them until they've done both actions sequentially.
I'm never quite sure with C3DS toys - I tend to use the vibraphone and the Burrows toypack, but I'm only assuming the Burrows agents work like their Terra Nornia counterparts. I've never checked. |
