Maybe place eggs in random locations then have a safe place where the norns can go? That's what I usually do. |

I tried starting everyone off in the Hub or Workshop so they'd have to navigate to food, but that was before I learned that baby Norns actually don't have navigation instincts turned on. So, uh... maybe not that.
Having access to the Jungle in a wolfling world rarely seems to end well. I don't know if I just have terrible luck or if it's simply too harsh for unattended Norns (except maybe Hardmans.) So I might suggest locking it with something like Hausmouse's door hiders if you're playing a docked world, or not including it in an undocked world.
(Then again, how else can you select for hardy norns? Hmm.) |

I usually have a nursery area I use- the norns get booted to a random area when they reach childhood or subjected to the IQ test. I also use random's room, MW room edits, elevines, and interporters to set up separate male/female tracks for an IQ test, simply because I don't like it when creatures spend their entire lives in the testing room and still reproduce. |

Add the perils of the C12DS weeds. you can have the danger increase the farther away from the nursery you get. (As well as the food sources...)

It's a docked world.

Replacing the elevators with elevines works well. I didn't realise until I tried running IQ tests that the workshop elevator only seems to pick up one norn at a time - elevines reduce the time other norns have to wait.
I'd also recommend plants over dispensers - my norns never really got the hang of those, even when taught. Or they'd push dispenser over and over again, but never eat the food. Most plant agents seem to hide everything but the fruit (and sometimes the manky fruit) from the creatures. |
