Nervous about gameplay

After checking out some of the videos and some blog posts, I am a bit worried that creatures online will lack some of the features the original games had and the idea of inheritance of genes from the parents will be non existent. Think the Sims free-play where the Sims can have babies but you can customize the babies appearance at birth (yes even the race). What I am saying is I am nervous that the new game will lack the randomness and liveliness of the original games.
I am hoping my fears will be misplaced.

Actually, according to one of their live streams, genetics and inheritance will still be in-tact. However, I'm still worried that the game will largely be very similar to The Sims Freeplay (which was awful).

I hope we'll be able to make the norns look more like traditional norns through genetics. The norns they showed so far don't look like they'd need my help to stay alive... great for wolfing runs i guess, but harder to get attached to..:C

That's the biggest issue i have with it so far... C3/DS were less addictive then C1/C2 because the norns basically didn't need human supervision...

I'm a bit worried by the world we saw as well, The demonstration was sort of short i suppose, but i worry that i didn't see any naturally growing food. I saw using coins to buy cookies, but... creatures as always had some naturally growing food in a lively world. even though most animals in C1 were just gif animation type things, there was growing food that grew on its own, whether you watched or not, whether you had norns or not. Hopefully these things will be included before release, or in other areas/worlds, or can be bought and planted and then they keep going on their own...

I absolutely hated The Sims Freeplay. How it was an editor's pick in the Google Play Store is beyond me. Making Creatures Online similar to The Sims Freeplay would be a terrible idea.

I wouldn't put it past EA to pay for that kind of thing...

But anyway, I'm not happy myself with some of the changes FC appears to be making to fit the free-to-play format, but I guess assuming it'll be an EA or Zynga-level trainwreck before any of us actually get to play it isn't very productive. We just gotta wait and hope, right?

FC does seem to listen to us, which is a good sign. [nsmile]

Eurgh. I know I've done nothing but rip on the game. But it really looks disappointing. I will try it, but it doesn't look as ALIVE as previous games. Also I will continue to reinforce my opinion that having a closed modding policy is horrible for the games health. Docking station has lasted so long because of the brilliant creative minds of our little community, I still play these games because of the creativity of our modders. FC 'adopting' the valve method for modding is a fallacy (valve allows modding openly for TF2, hence the numerous amount of game modes players have created.) Valve simply allows modelers to make money through their content, as WELL as letting modders do as they please on their own servers.

I could be horrible wrong about this latest installment, damn, I hope I am! But we'll see soon, I guess.

From what I understand, TF2 mods are vetted by the TF2 team before they can be distributed in their online shop?

Cosmetics and weapons can be yes. But if i wanted to create a map for TF2, I could easily make it and play it. If I wanted to make a custom game mode, i could do the same. There's no limits as to what a server owner can do. Sometimes community maps are considered a high enough quality to go on rotation on official servers.

Hats + Weapons = Vetted due to them being items ingame.

Maps + Game modes = Handled by the server, so you can mod it to your hearts content.

Don't get me wrong, i understand *why* FC has to enforce this, due to the whole F2P cash grab with coins or w/e. But it will seriously hamper on the life of the game, and more importantly will hurt the modding community which has been the backbone of the CC for a very long time.

I'm willing to wager the majority of people currently in the CC will likely stick to previous installments as opposed to this one just because of lack of free modding and massive style and gameplay changes.
