I'm still keeping an eye on the norns which I reared in isolation from the HLM to see how much of their vocabulary and life skills they will learn from their elders. One of the original eight norns has died of old age, most of the others have reached the ancient stage, and even one or two of the second generation have reached the elderly stage. So far, the offspring have been successful at maintaining their life skills in terms of feeding and amusing themselves appropriately with little or no intervention on my part apart from the occasional verbal reminder. However, it appears that I may have somewhat overestimated their language acquisition skills even though most of the offspring have managed to learn a few basic phrases of the vocabulary. It also seems as if they understand more than they can communicate -- one of the offspring sat down to rest as soon as I prompted him even though I had no particular reason to believe he could use the word himself.
I've also set up another world which I've populated exclusively with cloned norns that have 1) performed very well in feral and wolfling rungs by exploring the rooms sufficiently to find the resources they need to be kept fed, amused, and educated and 2) have passed the IQ test I use for them with flying colors. So far, with one notable exception, the norns who made it into the winners' circle are doing well in their new environment -- even the ones who have been part of a feral run where their previous environment was nowhere nearly as forgiving as their current one. |

What's the metaroom that you're using? When I make my experimentation I'm planning on using C1toDS but I'm not sure if it could work. |

I've been using Veridia (which is available for download here at CC) -- a beautiful metaroom with a surprisingly large amount of space for norns to run around in. Plus, it evidently has no built-in connection to the Capillata even though it's listed as a DS metaroom (you have to inject your own teleportation system if you want to connect it). However, it has no agents or objects of its own so you have to inject your own...then again, that allows you to customize it according to your preferences. I injected the C1-In-DS sunflowers and the mutating flowers (for seeds), C1-In-DS tomatoes (for protein), and a tuba seeder (for fat).
Personally, I wouldn't use C1-To-DS as your laboratory because it still has a computer with which the norns could learn the language without being forced to rely on and learn from their elders. It's also a very large meta-room, which means that youngsters might wander far afield and not have a chance to learn anything. Veridia has a lot of room, but not so much that the youngsters are able to wander far away from the other norns. You might consider using the Biodome metaroom, which according to what I've been told is a lot like Veridia because it has very few agents of its own and no built-in connection to the Capillata. |

Veridia seems very pretty. I'll try it out! |

The only thing I'd add about Viridia is that it really needs Amai's Magic Words Room Edits to make CA links. There are a lot of tree house levels and adding the links should help creatures navigate to food, etc. It's fairly quick and simple to do though. You can use one of the DS teleporters, elevines or a torii to get in and out. |

The v2 Biodome has CA links on its upper levels, but if you want norns to travel between the "bubbles" in the lower half you'll need to set up elevines and CA links manually. It's great if you need lots of space though. |
