*sigh* It was only a matter of time. I've just been on GOG and downloaded Creatures Exodus. Later on - tonight possibly, or tomorrow when I can't move because of today's spring cleaning! - I'll have a mooch round CC and the web and see what I can find.
But is there anywhere I should look first? Any websites, walkthroughs or agents I should check out/install first? Anything the game really requires for good gameplay? Any absolute must-haves? |

I think there's a 'Must Have Cobs' thread floating around somewhere...
My favorite norn is still Belldandy. |

I find the download section of this very site has a lot of good agents and metarooms. It's always the first place i look when i need a specific room/agent.

The resources section for some reason even with me is not too difficult to forget or lose.

Congratulations on purchasing Creatures Exodus! For 2.99 from GOG.com it's definitely worth the money, and you have the added plus that it's the game that people tend to develop for the most.
As far as 'Must Haves' go, I recommend Amaikokonut's Garden Box and it's addons from the Agents Collective (also via the above link), as it isn't included in the C3/DS Must Haves article. |

Oh lordy. I have now downloaded a Ton o' Stuff(TM) and I still don't know where to start... Have started documenting what has to be installed where, as this computer is due for a rebuild in the next few weeks and I'll have to set C3DS up again...! ![[ngrimace] [ngrimace]](/images/smilies/emot_grimace.gif) |

I find that the Reactor and New Pickups are indispensable in C3 standalone.

Start with the third party fixes. This includes the DS world registry skipper thingy. |

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I've got the world(s) up and running, and have explored the ships. There was a problem with muco missing sprites, though that may be because I've put them in the wrong place. I've just got to go through and inject the agents now; some are already in place (like the magic words core and add-ons).
I'm still a bit confused about how things are set up during play, though I'm hoping that's going to become clear as I get more familiar with things. Still not sure where the agents go - if an agent only works in C3 or DS, then it's obvious which My Agents directory it goes in. But for those that can work in either, or require a C3-DS docked world to work, does it matter where the agents go? Do they have to go in both My Agents directories to be used anywhere on the ship? |

If your world is docked, I don't think it matters which 'My Agents' folder you use for C3/DS agents; they'll just show up in different areas of the Agent Injector (the C3 or the DS section - toggle between the two by clicking on the corresponding button on the right-hand side) depending on which one they're in. Don't quote me on that though, as I've only just seriously started playing Creatures Exodus myself!
Good luck with your new world! I can't wait to read how you get on with everything. |

For C3/DS agents, put the .agents file into your Creatures 3 "My Agents" folder, and you'll be able to access the agent from both games. Same thing goes for egg agents.

Cool, thanks! It did seem a bit redundant copying everything everywhere. |

There's an article at the 2008 CCSF site, "The Lost Hand's Guide to Installing Creatures Full of Edits Genomes" - it may prove useful.

Thank you for that! I think I'm going to go back through all the CCSF websites before I do anything else. |

I'd love to hear what your first impressions of C3/DS were, after having played C1 for so long - I can recall being very confused!!!

Yes, mainly confusion! I love the fact that everything has a life cycle (or seems to), and considering the amount of agents, it's not running too slowly on the computer, either. The graphics are a bit cartoony for my taste, and very "plastic 3D", if you know what I mean - very flat textures. And the grendels are currently annoying the snot out of me. Next stop, anti-grendel agents, or forcefields at the very least.
The one thing I hadn't picked up from the net was the machinery, and the way gadgets can be joined together - I'm actually feeling more excited about that than the creatures at the minute! I have a feeling I could play around in the world for an hour or two without needing any creatures to interact with - just finding out about agents, watching the wildlife, playing with gadgets. And that's just in-game stuff, let alone the add-ons. I almost wish I hadn't seen C2 - although C3 is similar in some respects, it's so much more open-ended, perhaps because the developers worked on getting the really annoying C2 bits out, I don't know. C2 was such a disappointment when it came out, it put me off C3 by default. I've had to switch the music off though; I'm doing better with the norn I hatched to explore, but I get so tired of the mournful music! They might as well just give me a t-shirt with "Bad norn mother" on it, and have done! |
