Which breed gets a new genome?

Now that my TCR Challenge has been fulfilled, it's time for the community to pick which breed gets a new genome.

How this topic's going to work: I'll leave it open for a week or so, to let people propose a breed to get a genome revamp. Afterwards, I'll open up a series of polls with the breeds suggested. The winner of these polls will be made an actual genome.

When suggesting a breed, remember first and foremost that the breed must have a plain CL genome to qualify for a revamp. For an example, the Yellowstone Norns qualify as they simply have the ChiChi genome, while the Alien Norns do not, as their genome is unique to them.

That said, there are some exceptions to the above rule. The Flora Norns qualify despite having an edited genome, as they only have Amanora's "common edits" that she gave to all of her breeds and are plain ChiChi Norns otherwise. When suggesting a breed like this, however, you better be prepared to make an argument for it.

Secondly, the official breeds with plain ChiChi genomes qualify, but do remember that you are not limited to them and them alone. There's plenty of third-party breeds that would love a new genome.

Finally, I may have used norns as an example, but any breed qualifies as long as they use a plain CL or otherwise unremarkable genome - be it a norn, grendel, or ettin.

Feel free to propose ideas for the new genome alongside your suggestion - I might be lacking on ideas myself.

I think that's enough said. Now let the suggesting commence!

Candidates:
Bengal Norn
Siamese Norn
Fallow Norn
Zebra Norn
Civet Norn
Fairyfloss Norn
Harlequin Norn

Bengal Norn. Although quite different in appearance from the more standard bruin and chichi norns, other than appearance it has the exact same genome... In my opinion, it would be better if it had more genetic peculiarities.

I would also like to see the Bengal norn updated. The best suggestions I can come up with would be to make them more carnivorous and less social. They could probably afford to have less starch in their diets than other norns given that Bengal tigers are almost entirely carnivorous and I'd like to think that Bengal norns were supposed to be based on them.

i'd like to see the bengal updated. more predatory and more likely to search out for food and such as it needs so then it would be a fantastic wolfing run candidate if needed or just for breeding in general.
less social but still enough that they don't go around killing everything

Before the Bengal bandwagon gets too much farther: Let me say that you are allowed to make more than one suggestion in a post. I'm going to be pretty disappointed if only one breed gets suggested (since if that happens, the poll's pointless).

Also, I've updated the first post with the list of suggestions (scant as it is at the moment).

Oh! Ok, then.

I'd like to see more cat-like Siamese norns as well. Maybe make them sleep more or require more sleep than the other norns and make them more attracted to toys. I'd probably make them demand more attention in general, too.

Finally, I think the Fallow norns could be more easily crowded given their deer-like appearance and bad history. I think a little flightiness would be nice, too. Maybe make them more active and require more starch? That's all I got.

with the Bruin norns it says that their name is used poetically in reference to brown bears so maybe have them sleep more when it gets cold and make them crave berries and fruit type foods and swimming critters

I'd like to post a reminder that the purpose of this thread is to see what breeds people are interested in - e.g. "I'd like to see X, and this is the idea I have for X."

Not that I don't like idea dumping, but there's already been plenty of that elsewhere on the forums and it's not the point of this thread (and there's already been a few posts that I'm not sure are legimate suggestions to add to the first post or just idea dumps).

Fairyfloss Norn! I use these all the time, but I would love to see them with some sort of genetic difference. My idea is to have laid back, placid Norns that are a bit "artificial" - they don't really care for nature and are attracted to machinery as well as to crowds.

There was a topic on Creaturetopia a few years back about revamping all the official ChiChi clone breeds. I loved the idea and sort of wanted to make agent packs to go with them, but the breed changes themselves were way out of the range of my gengineering capabilities. I can't find the original thread, just my notes (below). Some suggestions probably aren't possible, though I'm no expert... these are just what I copied from my notes. Seeing any of them brought to life would be really cool!

Bengal Norns: Resistant to both heat and cold. Solitary and territorial, except when young, and reproductive chemicals decrease crowdedness. Very playful and likes to wander. Breeds less frequently. Takes longer to drown. Carnivorous; plant foods (eg. fruit) make them ill. Feels "homesick" for plant smell instead of Norn Home.

Civet Norns: Nocturnal and omnivorous (in keeping with the fact that they're based on civets); likes eating bugs and critter eggs, but some plant foods (perhaps leaves) make them ill. *May* be able to eat detritus without ill effects. Heat tolerant but not cold-sensitive. Prefers being high up and doesn't like being low down. Homesick for Grendel Home.

Astro Norns: Likes playing with gadgets more than playing with toys. Peaceful, not easily exciteable, and doesn't anger easily. Likes to explore, and is more inclined to push doors than other breeds. Also prefers being high up, and doesn't like being low down. Long-lived, maybe 7-8 hour lifespan.

Fallow Norns: Herbivorous; motivated to eat leaves, flowers, seeds, and fruit, but eating critters or bugs (or food?) may make them ill. Likes being around plants, likes plant smell. Cold-tolerant but not heat-sensitive. Doesn't get crowded, but gets lonely easily, and social interactions relieve boredom. Doesn't express as much. Skittish; especially around Grendels, and seeing other Norns run makes them want to run. Likes to travel. Males get aggressive when their sex drive is high. Less interested in gadgets/machinery.

Harlequin Norns: Dances instead of walking when happy. Doesn't scare easily, and is difficult to anger. Loves toys.

Zebra Norns: Herbivorous, prefers leaves, flowers, seeds, fruit; eating critters or bugs may make them ill. Females mature at youth but males mature at adult. Gets lonely easily but doesn't get crowded. Social interactions relieve boredom. Gets "frisky"/angry easily. Skittish around Grendels. Heat tolerant and cold sensitive. Migratory. Prefers Ettin Home and likes to be low down. Less interested in gadgets/machinery.

Siamese Norns: More fragile in general, but conversely, more resistant to impact damage. Playful and affectionate. Sleeps a lot, and heat makes them sleepy. Likes to wander as an adult, and gets crowded easily. Carnivorous, plant foods may make them ill. More vocal and prone to expressing.

Well, interest here has seemed to dropped off a bit. As such, I think it's time that I close it and start the polls.

But before I do that, I'm giving everyone another 24 hours to provide candidates.

How this is going to work: Everyone is allowed to provide three candidates (mostly so that the poll isn't dominated by a single breed - there was a little too much bengal love early on in this thread, for example). When posting your three candidates, bold them so that I can tell them apart from simple idea dumps. And please remember to keep the rules outlined in the first post in mind (e.g. make sure the breed you're proposing actually has a plain CL genome).

I don't quite understand the format you want the responses in, Grendel Man - I get that you want more detailled responses than brainstorms, but from there, I'm not really sure.

Right now, what I'm looking for are the breeds people want on the polls. Therefore, I'd like people to bold the three breeds they want to see on the poll. Brainstorms are still allowed; I just want candidates as well.

What I'm expecting the posts to look like:

Breed 1 - comments, ideas, etc.
Breed 2 - comments, ideas, etc.
Breed 3 - " "

Thanks, Grendel Man. I really like Ghosthande's descriptions, so I think my three faves of hers are the Zebras, the Fallows and the Civets. They'd give a wide variety of behaviours to play with.

I'm not sure if you are still accepting suggestions for this, Grendel Man, but here's my choices.

Fairyfloss Norns: I feel a fantastic skin deserves a more interesting genome to match it. The skin and name give me a light, airy kind of feel to them. And sweet, definitely sweet.

I propose that this breed likes the sky - they enjoy being in high places and chasing clouds. They have a small amount of cold resistance to withstand the cool temperatures they would find from such high places (whether mountains or skyscrapers). They like the light and dislike the dark. They are drawn to the sweet smell of flowers and they receive better than average nutrition from foods with naturally occurring sugars (such as fruits).

Siamese norn: Females are social and playful. Males are more territorial and become crowded more easily, which may lead to anger. As a species, baby norns are social and playful, gaining their male/female traits at adolescence. Both males and females prefer warm environments, and prefer critters over seeds/fruit. While eating seeds and fruit does not make them sick, they do provide less protein and starch and more fat. When not hungry, Siamese norns have a desire to push critters to relive boredom.

Harlequin Norn
: Harlequins are more social and less prone to anger, hitting other creatures is very disappointing for them, while being hit is very frightening. Harlequins love interacting with other creatures; pushing creatures relieves some boredom.

My favorite norn is still Belldandy.
