C1 population limit

I know there are cheats to make more eggs hatch in C1. But is there a cheat to make it possible to import more norns? (I like to have backups of my norns.)

By the way, I don't care if anyone steals my ideas for their own work, as long as you don't try to stop me from making my own stuff. Many ideas I mention are things I don't have the time or skill to actually do.

Slink made a couple of patches for 24 creatures. You might also like to investigate Bastian's Perfect Worlds.

Do Slink's patches affect importing? I thought they just affected natural hatching and the incubator.

I'm sorry, but I can't remember exactly what they do. :(

Unfortunately, Slink's patches do not have any effect on the importation limits. I haven't found a C1 COB that could change this, as I think it's hardwired into the coding. I have a few recommended workarounds, though I know that's not always possible when you need to import more than the standard limit.

It's not ideal, but if you're ever thinking in terms of backups, you can instead copy your world.sfc file every now and then. If something happens, that will backup all Creatures in the world at the time it's saved. Not the best solution, but I sometimes do this to be on the safe side!

Hmm... I bet Jessica would know more about Slink's patches, as I believe those are the ones she uses. I've been meaning to find out more about them myself!

Edit: Ha ha, I'm a little late to the commenting party! [nlaugh]

As far as I'm aware, there's no way to import more than 8 norns - it's hard-coded into creatures.exe. There may be a way, if you have programming skillz, that you can find a way to inject norns directly into world.sfc. That's way beyond my level of technical knowledge though. It's a shame they hard-coded it, instead of creating a variable based on max number of creatures in the world - but I don't think they really expected anyone to start poking around in the world file.

If I recall correctly, its possible to inject norns using a COB, but I would have to do a little more research into that.

you can use CGM to clone their genes and inject them directly as an egg. Works kinda well since you can keep your norn backup, and not have to continuously back them up.

Maybe someday someone will change the import norns of c1 [nblank]

Would it be the same norn though? Gut feeling is that what gives a norn its individuality is in part its life experiences (and how they affect its little norny brain) - start again from the egg and different experiences might result in a different norn. Not sure how much it would vary, though.

I haven't tested it yet, but there is a feature in CrEd32 that allows you to inject a Creature into C1. If I have time this week I might attempt to see if this is a way to get around the import limit. I don't have high hopes, but I'll certainly give it a try! You can choose a file to use, but it looks like it must be .ine format, instead of .exp. Like I said, I doubt this will help, but I'll be happy to look into it when I get a chance... Which will hopefully be this week!

Nutter,
I dont think it would be the same Norn, no. but i mean, part of us is genetics and other part is experiences, so maybe its a slight variation of the same norn. I guess it depends on how much you want to inject the same norn, or if you want their genetics? If I have a norn I like, I often find out what its genome is and just use that if I want to add them in again. I guess I feel like its basically the same norn, but maybe I can have a better chance giving them a good life again.
