Apparently Creatures Online is going to feature a "shop" of sorts where you can buy objects such as toys for your Norns using coins. What objects would you like to see in the shop?
I'd love it if Fishing Cactus made a Creatures 1 Pack of toys, including objects such as the beach ball, spinning top, jack-in-the box and the flibbertigibbet! It would really bring back fond memories of the old Creatures games and I'm sure old players would like it! I'd also find it funny if they included a practical joke set, with objects such as whoopee cushions, custard pies and squirty flowers. I can just imagine the Norns dressed up as clowns and throwing the custard pies at each other whilst wearing giant clown shoes. ![[nlaugh] [nlaugh]](/images/smilies/emot_laugh.gif) |

Clothing would be very fun.
I'd also love to see stuff from the other games. Or just generally themed objects. Maybe seasonal stuff. A little Christmas tree, or Easter eggs hidden around the world.

Lol what is the flibbertigibbet? I would like more fauna and flora.

The flibbertygibbet is that wierd-looking contraption found under the temple in Creatures 1, near the submarine bay. XD |

I always likes new plants and critters.. but I'd kinda like them all free with the initial game I guess the seasonal items would be the obvious choice.

I would be amazed if they created a section for users to make user created items, with a review section for the top rated items. This would be enhanced if there was a test mode for the game before the actual item is released to the full game - to see if it will work correctly
I really think the more user interaction allowed in this game will extend the life and replay value. |

I'm hoping for maybe clothes as mentioned before, or seasonal things. Otherwise I want most of the stuff free of charge with the game |

Lol, I can imagine norns throwing pies at each other to xD
I also think it would be awesome if users could creat things for the shop! Like maybe there should be a differant section for user created stuff!

But how would they make the stuff? This isn't two-dimensional anymore...
Maybe they do something like Spore where they choose parts to build their object then write a description of what it would do, then the staff would approve it?
For example, using a sphere and a semicircle, plus a curved shape could recreate the lemon pod agent from DS, and for a description, "Drops fruit for norns anywhere in the world."
The staff looks over it and approves it, then they set the price and add it in the shop. |

Fishing Cactus mentioned a while ago that they were looking at the Team Fortress addons system for a model as to what they wanted to do with third party development - I had a look at the system here. While the idea of 'metarooms' has since been discounted by Fishing Cactus, the shop having a 'suggestion box' still seems entirely feasible to me, so here's hoping!

In reference to SteerPike's Bong cob? Creatures 4 is trying to be family friendly, so I'm not sure that would make the grade... ![[nlaugh] [nlaugh]](/images/smilies/emot_laugh.gif)

They could include drugs, but as a way to "educate" kids that drugs are bad, although I think the effect of giving a Norn marijuana would be pretty darn hilarious. ![[nlaugh] [nlaugh]](/images/smilies/emot_laugh.gif) |

Well, I'm not sure recognisable drugs are really suitable but aren't the norns from C4 supposed to be cat-like? Cat-nip for norns (norn-nip!) could be quite fun. ![[nsmile] [nsmile]](/images/smilies/emot_smile.gif)
There's also "drink"/"manky" from the earlier games which represented alcohol.

Perhaps they could include an educational feature where Master Shee tells the player the dangers of drinking too much, if their Norns drink alchohol? |

wait would they include aphrodisiacs (for those times breeding seems to not be happening) or would something like that be removed for being "inappropriate." Not trying to be creepy here |

Norns are already implied to be swapping bodily fluids, just in a very tame way. They also have a sex drive.
I think creatures has a minimum level of maturity, and is actually a pretty good way to start a birds n' bees talk. |

aphrodisiacs are things that have always been included so it would be a bit weird to get rid of them now
i learnt everything i know about reproduction basically from playing creatures and reading the old help files since they explain the chemicals and how this work |

I hope kiss-popping returns in Creatures Online, the series just isn't the same without that characteristic popping noise!
I also learnt a lot about reproductive chemicals, from Creatures, such as the function of LH and Gonadotropin. |

Coins are the "free" currency, right? That was the shop C-Rex was talking about, unless I totally missed something.
I'd love to see some C1 and C2 items too! Maybe the zander fish?
As for CC, if they can't/don't want to make custom content a free-for-all (although if you ask me this goes against the spirit of the series), there are worse companies to use as a model than Valve (i.e. the TF2 thing.) |

Well, the truth about agents and breeds is that it took some serious work to learn how to develop for the games and not all of the development software was free, either. It's easy to forget that DS, the most recent Creatures game was released in 2005, 8 years ago. It may have been released sooner but I'm having trouble finding a release date online. That's the Exodus date. Having fans develop for the game was never really intended to be a part of the games. Look at how breeds are organized in Creatures 1, for example. Doesn't allow for much expansion. :3
In any case, I'm terrified of the idea that Creatures Online won't have 'local food' that grows on its own. I also see players having to buy growing plants. Still, Creatures Online is so far down my list of things to be concerned about. I've always been a bit cynical about FC's direction with this.

I was asking about the aphrodisiac because I was worried the game would be dumbed down to avoid offending people or an attempt to reach a younger audience That's great to know there will still be a boost to get little norns coming in more quickly. I didn't watch the entire video due to fear of being dramaticly disappointed seeing as how they have a stupid quest/tutorial in the beginning. |

@kezune: DS actually came out in early 2001. And C1 didn't start off with much of any third-party content support, true! But after all this time and the games that followed, a Creatures game would feel kind of "naked" without fan content, is what I was trying to say.
Can't say I'm too excited about FC's direction with this, either. Trying for cautious optimism, but... yeah. |

My own feelings towards the shop is primarily disappointment, as it symbolizes a step closer to the "junk food" gaming territory of what F2P, microtransaction-based games have become which I don't like the idea of Creatures being lumped into. Nothing wrong with a "shop", but no doubt there will be some toys you won't be able to buy with in-game currency. And, despite the fact that I appreciate that it's free to play, speaking solely as a hardcore Creatures fan since the old days, I'd happily fork out £100 for a new game of Creatures I'd love and could keep, than keep always paying for in-game things that I need the internet to play in the first place, with the likelihood that I won't even be able to KEEP the game forever if anything happens to the server, website or company!
In general, I don't much care for the items themselves either... I want cheese and carrots, rather than cookies and hamburgers. With respect - just as with your suggestion of clown outfits, etc - this new stuff all feels much more CV/CA than the main Creatures series I enjoyed so much. But my expectations can be summed up with this example: If CO has a music box in it's world, I can see instead of it playing some strange melody unique to the environment as in previous games, it would play Lady Gaga.
CO looks to me like it's trying too, too hard to be a part of pop culture, rather than some actual original break away from the norm the other games always were. They were different, but I think FC are playing it so very tame because they're worried about it flopping if they stray too far out of the box of what F2P games are nowdays.
I find that talk of inappropriate content going on here both fascinating and worrying because it seems that the world could pretty much take more back then. Things feel so much more closed now. Everything is either too "PC" to include things like aphrodisiacs or alcohol, or - if it does - it always has to be framed as an important life lesson and guidance / parenting which I think robs it of character.
As for what I'd actually like to see in the shop, if shop it must be, haha. - Machines and kits. I'd love to see some wicked-looking machine (full of depth, detail, and a sort of futuristic or even C1-Streampunk-esque look of history, as all the others have always been) which allows far more genetic splicing options.

I would bet the reason it's F2P in the first place is because it's not "mainstream" enough- they don't think it would sell enough as a standard game.
Which doesn't exactly inspire hope, if even the developers don't have faith in the property. |

As a small studio, F2P is the easiest way to make consistent money these days. People are a lot more willing to spend a dollar here or there on ingame items than they are forking out $20 or even $10 on a standalone game. It's just the way this era works.
And yes I know most of us enthusiasts who already love the series are more than willing to fork it out, but to newcomers who have no idea about the franchise probably not. That is too risky for the developers to chance, considering how small (relatively) the community of "guaranteed purchasers" is.
I don't like it any more than you guys, but business is business

Yes, I agree with some of the posts above; it would be cool if there were two sections to the shop, one official and one full of user created content. As for how it would work and especially how it could be pulled off in 3D, remember - the sims 2 and 3 managed it well! I'm excited to see if that happens.
