I'm not sure if this has been addressed already, but has FishingCactus outlined what the main differences will be between desktop computer versions of Creatures 4 and the iOS/Android versions of the game?
Basically the only games that I play these days are on my iPhone or iPad, since I'm always on the go, so I'm excited that C4 will be available on these devices.
Another related question: Will the game sync to all devices/desktop versions?

I haven't heard anything about how the game will work between systems, but I'm also curious about this. I was planning to try C4 on my laptop, but if the Android version is identical, or can sync to the PC version, then I'd seriously consider downloading it.
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

I hope that when they do release C4 on iOS, it won't constantly require an internet connection like the PC version. I think its stupid when iPod/iPhone apps constantly require access to the internet. |

I'm kind of scared of the iOS version. It's got to be either slower or less advanced than the computer one. And iOS games almost always want you to buy in-game credits. (You already bought the thing, why pay more?!) Though the iOS one could be updated with new features, I'm leaning towards the computer version because it seems to have less cons, to me. |

I agree with you about the internet requirement, C-Rex. I don't mind it so much on my iPhone since it always has 3G, but on my iPad I often don't have a wi-fi connection and then can't play those games on the go.

@Hawk: Fishing Cactus said Creatures 4 is going to be free and will be solely paid for by in-game purchases and/or other extensions.
As long as no other information is available I would assume that the iOS, Android and PC versions are going to be identical. Don't forget that Fishing Cactus has so far been a developer mostly (solely?) of mobile games, so I could imagine that the PC version will be essentially a port of the mobile one (despite the fact that when it comes to the internals they are currently porting old PC code over to the other platforms, but that's a different thing). |

Hi, indeed the mobile and PC/Mac will be very similar (some changes to UI and social features).
It is true that our main experience is on mobile (although a part of our team has a PC/consoles background) but all the versions will get the same automatic updates.
That's one of the main reasons for the controversial online requirement actually, making sure everyone playing is up to date and doesn't need to download patches etc. |

That is interesting. I can't can't wait to see the game and compare the mobile and Desktop playability

Hey, weren't the originals exportable? You could probably export the Norns from iOS to pc, as well as vice versa. That or you would have an account. |

I'm not a fan of always-online single player no matter what platform it's on.
Though "so everyone can be up to date" is easier to swallow than DRM/whatever it was EA was trying to accomplish with SimCity, I'm not sure it's really... necessary? I hope this doesn't sound rude, but what is it about the game that wouldn't work with prompted updates, or with automatically updating when the player does connect?
I for one can't always play online, and have to be careful when I do because we have a tiny data cap (technically we're on cellphone internet.) So I might actually have to pass on C4 until that faraway day when I can change internet providers.
Thank you for the update though, andreadst! |

Keep in mind that the last update from Andrea was in April 2012, nearly a year and a half ago. Although this statement could still be accurate, things might have changed since then!

Isn't it supposed to be the same game on both, though - ie. you log off your computer and log onto your phone when you're out and about, and it's still the same world?

I really hope it will be compatible with both iPad and iPod Touch. I downloaded an app the other day from the Apple app store and it was totally unusable with my iPod Touch 4th gen as it is only meant for iPad.
Also, I hope it doesn't require iOS 7 - I tried installing Dropbox on my iPod the other day but it refused because I have an older iPod model. ![[nangry] [nangry]](/images/smilies/emot_angry.gif) |

I would love to have access to my norns on my iphone as the appstore at the moment lacks a game like creatures with so much attention paid to genetics and breeding |

Is it true that they will release it on iOS/Android first and might not release it on PC if the game is unsuccessful?

That seems to be the case. I know an iOS version is planned to be released first. Android is included in that category, I think, although a lot of the information is a bit confusing.

The handful of industry reviews have been very positive so far, so hopefully once the game is released and we can actually play it, we can see for ourselves.

I assume that while a part of the community will probably not even try the game, outsiders might like it or give it a try. I mean, I would have never guessed that games such as Candy Crush Saga would be popular, and yet it's huge despite the fact that it looks like one of these flash games you played as a kid because you were bored. People are even spending money on it.
This could happen to Creatures Online.

If it's not successful, I wouldn't be surprised if their lack of publicity is responsible. I'm really disappointed with how Fishing Cactus has released information. Not angry, just disappointed. That period where they released no updated about CO and a lot of people assumed the project was dead? Now the weekly updates are nice, but they could really learn from Sauropod Studio's dev diaries. Even when they still had only two or three members they were publishing dev diary entries like that. They grew their fanbase, kept their fans, and their Kickstarter campaign for Castle Story was successful. It's their first game and they didn't have a pre-existing fanbase like Creatures, yet they still didn't have to contract ProsiebenSat.1 Games to manage their community.
Anyway, the weekly updates have mentioned improving compatibility with Android, so it'd be weird if they didn't release it on Android at all... I do hope there will be a PC port. I've got an Android tablet to play, but I really prefer being at the computer. |

It could be successful at least with children but they really need to let people know that this game will exist and be release. A few conventions is not enough advertizing. They could as well release a create-a-norn tool or something to keep the fans and future fans busy.
Personally, I have no tablet so I don't expect to ever test this game unfortunately. Not that I'm expecting something great and huge, but I've tried every single Creatures game so far and I wished I could test this one as well.

I, too, only play games on my computer. I don't own a tablet, and mobile games give me headaches. I'm with everyone on the comments about publicity and community management! Creatures Online could be so filled with suspense and expectation, even WITH all of the delays. The weekly updates are nice, yet I really haven't gotten a feel for the game. I also wish that they would perhaps focus more on talking about how it works specifically on a tablet/mobile device, since that's what's happening with the main release. What sort of actions can we do on a touch screen? Will the menu buttons fade away to give us more playing space? Can we still zoom on a mobile device without having to worry about getting so close that we can't do anything? Maybe those are silly thoughts, but they seem important for a tablet/mobile release! Really hoping they get things together soon. And not just the release... The whole community aspect.
