Creatures 4 in general

How do you think Creatures 4 is going to turn out? And what do you hope will be in it?

I am trying to be optimistic about it, but I guess I'll see when it comes out. If it ends up more like a tamagotchi, there's always Grandroids when that is finished.

I'm hoping that the norns will be more developed in this game than the last ones, but I'm not sure if that will happen or not. Hope we can make our own breeds too. What do you think? ^^

The lack of anyone being able to pick up a modding tool and modding for it is a bit of a slap to the face for long time fans, and it may seriously hurt the games life span in the long run.

However, provided they do allow high quality mods in a la tf2 (I recall them saying they were toying with the idea) I can live with that sort of. Honestly that's my only real issue right now, I'm happy someone has finally picked up the series, but, it's just gonna be a waiting game, really.

I heard thst they're going to make it less compilcated than c3. What was compilcated about c3 ?

You make it sound like they left out modding just to spite us, Jacob. I recommend you drop that attitude.

Fishing Cactus opted to develop the game using the Free to Play model, which means they will get continues revenue from the game as long as people keep playing and as long as they keep churning out new content for it on a regular basis. This is pretty much the only viable way for a game like Creatures to survive on today's market.
So you can either get an extra game to play for totally free, and a lot more people who might get DS and C3 and thus more agents and stuff for the earlier games, or just stay with C3 and DS and the same old faces forever.

I understand WHY they did it, I never once insinuated it was dropped to spite us, i was just expressing my disappointment in that. :P

I'm looking forward to Creatures 4 mainly because it's a lot different from the previous games and actually looks more like a game and less like a simulation. I doubt it will end up like some half-baked Farmville-like game, and even if you can purchase extra content, I find it builds up excitment when you have to wait before buying an addon pack for a video game, but only if it actually adds extra gameplay elements and features.

The only thing I'm not to keen on is that Norns all seem to have fixed facial expressions. :/

I guess I must have misinterpreted the use of 'slap in the face'. Now you mention it, that doesn't sound like something you'd do to spite someone at all. *cough*

Carry on.

I've noticed in the demos that the norns are still acting like norns- if you look closely you can see them playing with the rope ladder like they do elevators.

Rofl, it's cool. Tbh, Flying Cactus does seem to genuinely care for the series, which is fantastic to see, I'm just a bit of a breed/agent hoarder. :P

what do you think about the game-design? its like a cartoon and it does look like a game for kids - it's a pity, i think.

Mobile games in general tend to be brightly colored.

I've noticed my mother's phone makes everything colorful, even things that really shouldn't be brightly colored, so I can't help but wonder that it wasn't at least in part due to compatibility reasons. A subtler scheme would only be abused by mobile devices, at least in some circumstances.

I rather like the colorful environment... Makes me think that life is returning to Creatures! We also haven't seen everything, yet: There could be areas that are a bit more toned down and/or darker. Wasn't it stated that there would be four or five separate regions, with the treehouse area being just one of them?

I also don't necessarily think that it looks solely like a game for kids. We've only seen the development screenshots, and I'm hoping for a real gameplay video soon!

I'm still pretty optimistic about it. I'm kinda sad because on their website there are quite a few people telling them that they're doing a terrible job and that they're "ruining the series."

That's no way to show appreciation, people. They work hard on a game just for us, when they could have never even bothered, and they ask for input, and these people on their site are all ungrateful. It's really upsetting, but I just hope Fishing Cactus doesn't let it get them down.

I know. :(
Yet people get all whiny and offended if you point out how negative they are. I wish the CC was more encouraging toward these guys, they've been nothing but friendly and positive toward us.

I agree, too. I respect the fact that not everyone is optimistic and excited about Creatures 4: We all have our own opinions! I just wish the negative comments were a little more neutral, or at least constructive. I keep reading how childlike the game is and how no one wants to play it if it's free-to-play or whatnot. That's perfectly fine, yet I don't see the need to tell Fishing Cactus and put down the game.

On the other hand, I'm happy that there are lots of people making positive comments! Or at the very least, the constructive criticism seems to be helpful. I still believe that Creatures 4 is an opportunity to bring new players back to C1, C2, and C3/DS, no matter how it turns out. It's not going to be a game for everyone, and I can't even say if I'll love it yet. Fishing Cactus deserves lots of credit, though, for taking on this project! I think just knowing C4 is coming has brought the community alive just a little bit more.

I'm actually a big fan of the graphic style we've seen thus far. I'm never a fan of the "bright, colorful, styalized graphics are for children!" mentality. I like my bright colors and fuzzy creatures!

My main concern about C4 is that it won't lend itself to such things as wolfing/ferral runs, won't let people tinker with creatures genetics, and simply won't have some of the possibilities that the other games do.

However, here's the thing. I play Creatures 1 and Creatures 2 quite regularly, and I have never once conducted a wolfing/ferral run in either of those games. I've spent probably a total of 30 minutes in the C1 and C2 genetics editors combined, and yet I still love C2 probably even more than C3/DS.

Those three games each offer me something completely different, and I will always have them. If C4 provides a game that focuses more on forming a connection with your norns, like in the older games, even without all the fancy toys of C3/DS, I'll be happy.

My only real concern about the game was payment, which isn't really a deal-breaker for me, as I accept that it would be difficult to develop the game otherwise, and that Fishing Cactus is doing the best they can given the circumstances.

While I'm not a fan of the bright, colorful designs for the Creatures series, it should be noted that it is just a personal preference. While I do strongly prefer the graphical style of Creatures 1 and 2 over the newer games, that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it anyways :P

Overall I am looking forward to the game, and am even planning on purchasing the boxed/collector's edition, (assuming I can afford it at the time). Even though the gameplay will be different than previous versions, I'm sure I will appreciate the unique additions that C4 will have to offer.

And while I am a third-party agent/breed fan, I won't be too dissapointed if modding isn't offered at some point. I still have C1, C2, and C3/DS to work with ;)

Hi! Thank you for the support everyone, don't worry too much about us. It is true that some old-time Creatures fans are a bit disappointed by what they're seeing but it's not a big deal; we understand they're concerns and probably some will just go back to C3/DS, for modding at least!
I would lie by saying that we don't care but you know, we're messing up a fairly huge number of things on our side too (communicating about the game...and...we're late!). All things considered, that's fair! And ultimately, the vast majority of the community has been very kind to us! Thank you ^^

Just a thought, while we've got your ear... an ETA of 'summer' doesn't mean that the date will be changed from late June to late August, does it?

Fingers crossed then :)

Don't worry, we gave Creatures 3 the same grief too ;) The CC likes to employ the Marmite rule ;)
