Ahem.
"The Sidhe (shee) are considered to be a distinct race, quite separate from human
beings yet who have had much contact with mortals over the centuries,
and there are many documented testimonies to this. Belief in this race of
beings who have powers beyond those of men to move quickly through the air
and change their shape at will once played a huge part in the lives of people living
in rural Ireland and Scotland."

Wait was I just too stupid to notice this or have people not heard of this?
I am now convinced that the Shee were humans at one point, space travelers descended from extremely sophisticated UK people, and evolved over millenia in space into the endearing things that we don't know what they look like. This explains the sidhe situation and the tea-and-biscuits situation. Also how they taught the norns Earth language.
Yay conspiracy theory!
Prove me wrong.

I've heard of it; the original Creatures game drew a lot of inspiration from Norse and Celtic mythology.
In my personal headcanon they have some of the aspects described in your post (mostly the "phenomenal cosmic power" and, to some extent, the shapeshifting bit), but I consider them a completely separate race from humans.
Also, my headcanon is kind of... abstract... and I don't consider my Shee theories game canon (er, except for whatever I toss around for the Lone Shee, but I try to stay true to the source material for him).
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

But seriously, I'm just beginning to recognize all the Beowulf and mythology references, especially in the first two games. This stuff is pretty cool once you see what it's based on.
Also, I think sidhe also = faeries. As in daione sidhe, the fairy host (army).

Oh, nice, thanks for the post! I've gotten most of the references; I'm living in Sweden, so the Norse things has come quite naturally to me whilst I've been much more lost on the Celtic ones. Sooo these "sidhe" is all new to me. Always fun to learn new things! |

Also, just realized this whilst researching la Llorona, the bean si (banshee) and the sidhe in irish mythology have basically the same roles as the shee and banshee, also sith and jedi, actually, good and evil stemming from the same origin (I believe).
Also, just a funny thing i noticed, is that the traditional banshee is either a beautiful young woman or an old nasty hag. see a shee/grendel dyanamic within a dynamic there?
Yay wild speculation!

Never heard of this before but it is amusing.
I'm a hardcore christian first, and a creature breeder second.
