So, last night, I couldn't sleep. Instead of drinking a cup of warm milk like a normal person, I decided to go onto A2K and look at all the old posts I made.
Honestly, it made me want to cry. The CC was the only online community I ever really "fit" into. I came to the community as a mere child, with my share of immature jokes and noobish tendencies. Over the course of nine years, my fellow CCers have celebrated with me, helped me with my problems at home, and simply have been the best bunch of online buddies ever.
Whether it was a game of "The Person Above You" or a dead-serious thread, the sheer camaraderie apparent in the CC is astounding. Thanks for always being there for me despite the fact that I was a complete stranger. I hope I've given the rest of you help and good memories, too.
I'm not leaving or anything. It just seemed to be a good idea to thank everyone.
So, does anyone have any extra-special memories to share?

Haha, that's exactly what I do when I'm utterly bored too - browse my old posts! I miss actively posting on A2K, they were fun times weren't they? I remember the topics you used to post ColonelJ, they were always fun and interesting. And what a nice topic this is! Thank you so much for sharing those sentiments with us. It's great to know what our community has done for people.
I too, feel the same way. The CC really has been a big part of my life for the last seven years (almost to the point of obsession! ) and I wouldn't change a thing about it. In hard times, it's been a place of refuge, and in other times it's been a place of fun. Creatures Caves, in particular, really feels like a home away from home to me, so much so that I now think of everyone here as a big, second family of brothers and sisters.
The one extra-special memory for me was when I first joined back in 2003. I was a nobody, but was so quickly accepted by everyone and my Ask Laura column was welcomed with open arms.
So thank you, everyone. And a special thank you also goes to Rascii, for giving an unknown like me the opportunity to open Ask Laura in the first place, and of course, for creating this website, which I love and have all the time in the world for. |

I love the CC and it's members. They have helped me through a lot of problems, even if they might now know it.
The CC is a open-armed community, who welcomes anyone without question. The feeling of having being a part of something like this is amazing.
You can go away for a while, and come back, and people will have genuinely missed you and express joy about your return.
It feels *good* to have a home away from home, even if it's based on online relations... It makes rough patches in life easier to work through.
Thank you CC, for being what you are!

Yeah, I wish that I had joined the CC in its beginnings. Even when it is old, it's still a good place for fellow Creatures Fans. I remember that I was noobish, hadn't good English and that I didn't know much about the community. I'm still in the community, and browsing almost the whole day.

This so freakin' much. I didn't start actively participating in the Creatures Community until relatively late in the game, but even just watching the community as a lurker did wonders to help keep my spirits up in my darker days.
So, yes, thanks for being you, CC.
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

I might have joined much later on, but I know this community is comfortable, warm, and pleasant. It feels nice to be a part of something like this.

It's nice and friendly now.. but I sort of like looking at old flame wars. Anti-Norn and the way people reacted to him was awesome. (Incidentally, I don't suppose anyone has an archive of his downloads?) |

Isn't there a mirror site with Anti-Norn's stuff on it? Anyway...
Thanks, Laura! That was very sweet of you to say.

Yeah, a mirror of Tortured Norns is here (not for the easily offended lol) I'm not sure the download links work anymore though.
No problem, ColonelJ - just tellin' it how it is. |

I joined in what, 2008? 2009? Not sure, but you guys always have something good to say about one another. Sure beats going on other forums and dealing with flame wars.

I am usually really anxious or shy and it takes me a while to get up the courage to talk to people, even online.
But everyone here is so nice and friendly, I eventually found my voice and started to speak up - and I found it was great! I have lots of good memories about this place and even though I sometimes drift off to other things for a while, I always find myself coming back here. I genuinely miss this place when I'm away from it. The forum games and discussions are interesting and fun, and I love seeing all the work and wonderful ideas people come up with. I still giggle over the Ask Laura and the 'funny things your Norns have done' sort of topics and re-visit them as well. I especially love it when we all manage to get together and organise community events and wolfling runs and the excitement and chats then.
I've actually been lurking around here since I was in middle school...but I never joined until many years later. I have to say: I'm glad that I did. ^_^
I'm back after 11 years. Holy dooley! |

And we're glad you did, too!
The CC has been the only place I could really talk Creatures. When one talks about it, it's a given that they have to try and explain it as well. That gets pretty tedious after a while. -_-
But here in the CC, I can talk all day about floating lemons and pinky plants, and no one is going to be all like, "Uh-huh... Cool... Sounds alright..." :p

The downloads don't work, but the blueberry page is hilarious.
And yeah.. I really wish "so bred any good ettins lately" was an acceptable form of small talk. |

Me, too.
I've been explaining Creatures more and more to my boyfriend, and he's actually acting interested. Maybe I could get him to try it out one day?

Man I remember back in the days. . . The A2K vs CC.com wars, the JRC business, the webcam here which I so exclusively got to see exclusive things on (lol)
Aaaah I miss the old days.

It sounds like a pretty old community, with lots of memories. A shame I didn't get into the PC series as a kid. Ah well, I know about it now. All thanks to my friend getting the PS1 game.
I got my own boyfriend into it a bit. He doesn't play it a whole lot but he thinks it's interesting.

For new (or potential) players, make sure they understand all the different aspects of gameplay. Including development, or norn fights, even norn torture if that is their thing |

Haha I told him about that, he got intrigued with the Health area on the bridge and kept injecting creatures with random chemicals to see what would happen next. No one died, not even any grendels.

I remember when I was really, really young, about five or six, when my dad got me the first Creatures game.
The Grendels and the Graveyard scared me to death, and I was so upset by my Norns getting beat up, that I started looking up workarounds. Not only was it an introduction to game modding, but also an exposure to the Internet and the wonderful community.
I was too young and shy to get into it before, and I'm sad that I missed its heyday, but I still have those wonderful memories.
I recently rediscovered an archive of The Palace Of The Evil Shee, and I read that wonderful story Lis Morris wrote. I had tears in my eyes, it was so familiar-then I remembered I used to read it back when I was little!
Aah, good times. :')

"the Graveyard scared me to death"
It was exactly the same for me when I was playing on C1.
My mother bought Creatures 1 when I was about 8/9 years old (it was in 1999). I remember my first Norn, Rodolphe. He spent his life exploring Albia and died in the Island's caves.
Even if I was young, I began to explore the french part of the Creatures Community - especially I began to read the contents and the forum of the CreaturesFrance website. There was a bunch of passionate here : Pasto the moderator, Hildebrand, CyberWolf, Biribi, ame.damnee, Hebi, Chichi, YvesD... At the beginning it was the best community I ever seen. But with the years people went out... And in 2005/2006 we was only 7 survivants. And the forum's hosting time reached his end... I had a project at those times to take care of the french Creatures Community but I wasn't able to do this because of personnal things. In 2008 all broke. Nowadays, the french community is dead, and I don't know were my old online friends are... It seems I'm at least the last survivor. |

I remember back over 10 years ago when I was really into EVERYTHING CC related. My how times have changed! It is still refreshing to know that people remember me even when I vanish for over a year at a time! So many good memories and friends. I have to agree with ColonelJ on this one, it is the BEST online group of friends anyone could have.
