I'm a relative newbie to the creatures community, and I can't figure out why Creatures isn't more popular, especially C3/DS. I live in the states, so I'm not aware if maybe it is a mostly English phenomenon or not. However, it is the best computer game I've ever played. Aside from being a virtual pet game, it has a wonderful open-ended system that allows the community to create and customize it. I can't figure out why this hasn't caught on and been just as popular as Harry Potter, Pokemon, etc. with the kids. I'm a 32 year old school teacher and every class I've asked if they've heard of it have said they don't know what I'm talking about. Even though I'm an adult I love this game and I find it very therapeutic, from the relaxing music, good graphics, to interacting with the creatures.
I wish there was something we as a community could do to increase the popularity of this game. I think if more people knew about it, it would catch on like wildfire. So, any ideas or thoughts on how we can help, or why creatures isn't more popular? |

Well, Creatures might not be popular nowadays because it's targeted toward a very niche group. Not everybody's entirely into the idea of artificial life or caring for dozens of small fuzzy cute things that operate on a two-year-old baby's level. Also, the latest iteration of the game is about 9 years old, making it a dinosaur compared to the other action-packed games out nowadays.
The best thing you could probably do for the community is share it with your friends, get them into it. I'm currently trying to get one of my close friends to join in on the fun. Word of mouth is very influential!

I agree it should be. I believe it'd be more popular if Gameware came out with a 3D version that was released in both the US, Britain, Canada, etc.

Those are good ideas. I think the free download of DS makes it easier to share with other people. Also, it would be good if Gameware would do a 3D version. It would probably take an increase in demand though. |
