Hi everybody. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there seems to be a lot of advertisement spam on Albia 2000. The reason I am posting this is because I fear that Albia 2000 will become just another deserted Creatures forum chock full of spam (like alt.games.creatures). |

it already is another deserted site.
Not really active around these parts anymore. |

Hellfrozeover and I tried to clear up those spambot posts once, but there's not really any point, without having an Admin around to ban their IPs. Those spambots are relentless and just keep coming back, unfortunately. I think Ali would have to put something in place to block them completely.
It is a real pity, I agree, but at least we still have this spam-free site to enjoy. Every cloud. |

That's quite a shame really. But I guess with the website being 12 years old it was bound to happen soon. |

They are using phpNuke and an very old version of phpBB2, these old versions also contain many security issues being your site a serious prey for hackers.
EDIT: For an example, Bibbleworld also used phpNuke and they got loads of spam. I'm very happy with the new phpBB3.

Laura, the CAPTCHA on CC.com is not very hard to solve by bots, so maybe they are going to spam sooner or later.

That's a pessimistic way to think, Lembam. The good thing is that Rascii obviously still cares about this site. He's kept it going for so many years, and still occasionally visits. I'm sure if these forums started to become overrun with spambots he'd sort something. |

Plus, this site is still active. There are people to clean up the spam, if it eventuates, including the admin. (Rascii is still around, right?)
Also, there really isn't that much spam on A2K right now. There has not been any new spam in weeks that I can see.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't see the rest of the post.. edited was it? |

The spam doesn't even make sense as spam. Most of it is people asking for random generic computer help. |

ylukyun - Yeah sorry, I have a habit of doing that.
I've noticed that a small majority of spam threads in the OT Ramblings forum are by Ezri, and Gryph banned him from here for doing the same thing. |

I didn't notice his spam in the OT part. That's pretty bad.. However I was talking about people who post things such as "help, my cd tray is stuck and my printer is on fire!" 500 times without even links to pharmacy websites. Maybe some tech support guy got bored and rerouted his queries to A2K through a spambot?
(Now I'm going to take back pretty bad. The guy posted 3 2816x2112 JPEGs in a thread simply titled "gun". XD) |

I've got to say the spam is pretty frustrating, and quite disappointing when you think there are now posts
The problem is the more spam that appears the more spammers think it's a good place to leave links.

If people are still expressing an interest in the A2K forums, I've just mass deleted all the spam topics from each board. HFO is back onboard too, so now, hopefully, it'll be easier to tackle the spam topics as and when they appear. |

Thanks you guys. It's nice to see the place is no longer going down the toilet, especially since a few newcomers seem to be using it as their first port of call. |

I'm a little late to the table, but thanks for deciding to clean up Albia 2000 a little bit! It was one of my first ways into the community, although I only visit occasionally. Funny how most of the spam really doesn't make any sense... I noticed that the spammers sometimes put links in their profiles that look a little fishy, but I'm not sure if anything can be done about that. Thanks again!
