Some guy on AGC was saying he was running C3 on 7. He couldn't find his .creature files though. |

wow. holy cow. i just installed windows 7 and copied my creatures files over to my media drive from my old hd- that's it, no install, no nothing, and it works. just works, off the bat.
for those of you considering windows 7, do it. seriously. i can't say enough good things about it so far.

You need to run setup instead of the autorun, because the autorun don't want to start in a OS newer than Windows 98/ME or Windows 2000.

oh i know about the autorun. i'm just saying i didn't need to use either the auto run or the setup. just the copied files from my old hd sufficed.

Well it looks like a couple of people have already given definite results, but another reference couldn't hurt, especially if you have some specific details to add (hardware info, creatures 3 version - exodus, cie, normal, patched or not, info about windows 7 build, any compatibility modes used) |

hmm, well, heregoes, maybe i can be a little more put together and informative
hardware info: intel atom n270 1.6 ghz processor with 1gb of ram
software info: windows 7 ultimate, with creatures 3 original edition (i think? i run it from a random iso so i'm guessing here) and docking station- updated to latest engine version available. also c12ds. yay!
results:
copied my entire old hard drive over to my new hard drive. ran docking station- docked world ran with no problems.
moved around some folders on my new hd, now creatures doesn't seem to realize that c3 is present. oh bother. installed c3 without doing any fancy footwork , ran ds again without running compatibility mode or anything (in 16 bit high color as it insists i do) and everything works well and smoothly. no error messages or anything in the 20 mins i've allowed it to run to test things out.
my new computer is slower than my old computer. this is sad.
compared to the issues i had with c3 in xp (randomly deciding to not work, error messages, not installing correctly, etc) this seems to work pretty well. coming soon: evaluation of c2 on windows 7

That your computer is slow is because that your Win7 is running on 1GB ram. Win7 needs min. 3GB to run smoothly.

actually, it runs perfectly fine on my computer, with the exception of creatures 3 lagging a bit more when i'm multitasking- e.g. have firefox open at the same time or whatnot.
more ram would definitely help but as far as i can tell, the performance difference between xp and 7 on this particular machine is negligible. everything runs smoothly and quickly, with the exception of things like graphics heavy games. but hey, it's a freakin' netbook.
i'm chalking up the multitask suck to the single core processor.
