I was thinking... Is there a creatures doctor on the web? You could send Norns to the doc for treatment! Ettins and grendils to. Infact I would love to do that! I know quite a bit about creature anatomy (mainly in C2) I think that volunteers should come forth as doctors or nurse then we could possibly choose nominee's! Doctors and nurses could specialise in C1 C2 or C3! Can I go forth for C2? What do you guys think? I don't really understand C3 Norns and they keep dying from illness! So urgent recruitement needed. If other do come forward then they must be willing to give their email address or have another form of transporting creatures (safely) over the web.

If your norns aren't related to Toxic Norns, the Miracle Heal by Clucky should fix up immediate illnesses such as bacteria etc.

Thanks! But what do you think about the doctor idea? If I continue it should I move to another forum?

I think it's a good idea in theory - not sure about the practical application?

How about we have a poll and see what everyone thinks? Maybe we should just have a post for medical related incidents?

Edit:well I looked at the poll! 10 people voted that someone on creatures caves could be a doctor! 0 voted no.I think that it could be like the Ask laura column only a "Ask the doctor" column! ;) I love the sound of that!

EDIT2: I was wondering if someone could make this a sticky topic or something where people could ask questions about creatures biology and I would research and find the answer for them?

Update:

Is your Norn ill? Are your race dying out for an unusual reason? Or are you just curious? Fear no more! The creatures doctor is now in town and ready to answer any questions on diseases, genetics, and other various things about what's going on inside your creatures!

What do you think? I have been doing research on creatures and thought I could help others understand things or fix genetic faults! There is a poll called creatures doctor and 11 people thought it was a good idea! Of course at this moment in time I couldn't answer questions on C3 since I don't own it but I will be getting it soon!

Malkin: I would do C1 and C2 at present and then C3 when I purchase it :)

EDIT: oh do you mean like ettins, grendels ECT? I do all!

Check out Dee - she's got an interesting brain on her. Even though I can't play C1 any more, I've always wondered about her. Can you please explain how her brain works?

Ok analysis will begin shortly (too bad I'm on iPod at present will report tomorrow) So you want to know the changes in her genetics and brain compared to normal norns? Also do you know how the nornal brain works? :)

I'm mainly interested in her brain. I've got a vague idea about how the normal brain works, but information on that would probably be good, too, thanks! :)

Well Malkin, from what I can see in the genetics editor there is nothing extremely different in her brain than in a nornal norn :\ Oh but it seems that the noun and verb lobe positions have changed! Other than that I beleive there are no other changes. In a link on the yin yang norn wiki there is a list of genes which have been changes. I belive it may be possible that a chemical influence could be connected to any brain changes, I will keep looking ;) If you want to know more about the brain then I have a post in the development column! I will update it tonight :)

EDIT: No sorry I can't find any other differences :\ I have been told that the positions of brain lobes can have a great effect on how the brain works :o

Why does their position matter?

My TCR Norns

scoota94

  1/22/2010

Well in the norns brain there are connections called dentrites which basically connect one neuron to another. For example: In the stim source lobe neuron 28 is the computer. A dentrite connects this to neuron 28 in the atttention lobe so when the computer is the most visually and auditary stimulating object the creature will look at it :)

It appears lobe position and width/height affect dentrite connections (This info is gathered from Chris's resources)

Neat, thanks! :) So if her language lobes' positions are changed to overlap the decision and attention lobes, that means she makes better connections between hearing speech, and it leaps into her attention and she naturally places priority on doing what's said?

Is it brainwashing?

Not really. When the hand says "norn" It will fire the norn neuron in the noun lobe. Since the noun lobe is on top of the attention lobe the norn neuron there will be fire aswell... Do you get it? :)

Is it a strong enough force to counteract her instincts?

My TCR Norns

scoota94

scoota94

  1/22/2010

Hmm Well there are dentrites connecting the verb and concept lobes to the descision lobe. When reward or punishment is given through instincts it weakens or strenthens them. If they are strong they are more likely to connect next time a similar situation arises! :) But since the verb lobe overlaps and the corrosponding neurons are always fired, dentrites ignored, then I'd theorise that instincts are weaker :o I could test it...

Ok I will test her and report back 8)

EDIT: Well malkin I could not get her to eat the ugly tomato! She just looked at! This proves that her instincts are slightly stronger than her new brain layout! :o

EDIT2: I have updated the brain topic in development :)

Hey, this is a good idea. I had an idea for making a medical/doctor thread a while ago too! :D Because it would be handy having all the information like that in one place. And you can just search for key words with the ctrl+f function to find info you need. ^_^

Er...anyway, I really wanted to ask for some help with a Creature. It is for C3/DS but I have had it happen in C2 as well so if anyone knows the answer then that would be good.

In one of my worlds, I have a family of Bengal Norns and when a young female became pregnant, she sadly died instantly. I was wondering if some Norns might be suceptible to complications from being pregnant and if that is what kills them. I have had it happen to my creatures in C2 and C1 but not quite as often as it has in C3/DS worlds. Could there be natural mutations in the Norns that causes such a thing to happen? Usually it's always with Creatures who are several generations.

Perhaps the norn's body emits a toxin when pregnant, or has a reaction progesterone + nothing = toxin, or it has a receptor causing it to die from progesterone. There are any number of mutations.

On the other hand, they could all have been unrelated deaths, and it's just a co-incidence more happened in C3/DS.

This has happened to me once but I am not sure if reasons are the same. What ylukyun says could be true but it depends! When a female Norn is pregnant the muscle tissue in her body is used up. If her muscle tissue levels are low and reach 0 then she could die! Of course if your creature has eaten plenty of protein and is very healthy then it is probably what ylukyun says! Sorry about your norns :(

Thank you for the information guys. ^_^ Much appreciated. It is very interesting.

Oh...hmm, where would I happen to find her gene file? I never saved a copy of her and she died before I could. I kind of feel like I killed her, since I'm the one who got her pregnant with the inseminator. ;_; And she just dropped to the ground...

Ahem...sorry, that's a bit off topic. Anyway, would it mean that she had low muscle tissue if she hadn't eaten anything for a while? How do you check muscle tissue in a Norn? :/

Well If you have an tool in C3 to monitor their chemicals then you can use that! Also is there maybe a genetics folder for C3 on your computer? Of course you may not know which one is her :\

the file would be creatures folder\my worlds\world name\norn's moniker.gen, but you would have to know her moniker.

SpringRain

SpringRain

  1/25/2010

Ohh, okay. Well, I could go and look but I wouldn't know which moniker was hers, I'm afraid.

I remember there is a chemical monitor thing in the agents in C3 but I usually don't use it because I couldn't figure out what to do with it. That could have monitored them most likely. And of course the medical pod. But I don't like to stick Norns in there unless I'm trying to heal 'em. ^_^

I have another question, if anyone might know the answer:

Is it only radiation that causes a Norn's body and organs to break down in C2?

I noticed that over a while as I was playing with my Norns, the organs and brain etc. always used to seem to lose health over time. Some of them would even be crossed out when the Norn was really old. I used to let my Norns explore all over the world but still, not all of them went in the volcano and some of them never went near it.

Do the body parts break down naturally or is it something like not eating or sleeping that causes it?

I would have assumed it is part of the natural aging process, in this case something happening over time rather than being switched on in "old age". I'm not very familiar with the organ genes yet, but there is probably a variable in there controlling gradual deterioration, perhaps in response to ever-present environmental factors.

scoota94

scoota94

  2/2/2010

Oh I know this! All organ genes have a variable called vulnrability which controls how fast the organ naturaly decays, so don't worry this is perfectly nornal! Basicaly ylukyun is quite right :) radiation and antigens cause organs to decay faster :o
