I didn't want to have to post this. People in this community have driven me to it.
I have been around, if not posting actively for a *very* long time. I have seen people, projects and iterations of Creatures come and go.
As you know, I have been working on an archive. For all intents and purposes, it's complete.
Hundreds and hundreds of files, scoured from all over. Many of the files are thought to be lost.
My archive spans all the games.
Once all the files were gathered. Well, that's when the fun began. I began contacting people in regards to archiving their assets for the future of the community.
The answer was a resounding No.
This post is for all of you who said no.
It's because of people like you that this archive will never be made public. When I leave this community some day, it will go with me All those files presumed lost, will stay that way.
For shame! For shame!
You call yourselves a community! When you can't even get over your own selfish greed! and
I'll re-iterate this:
C12DS may be distributed so long as it is not charged for, and is kept in its original format.
Unlike some of you, I do not wish my work to be lost to the sands of time.

I would've liked to have seen an archive, however we can't change the fact that people are under no obligation to share their work. Shame though, sounds like you went to a lot of effort, Lacota. |

Pity. Even though I understand wanting to be proud of your own work and have your name on it, when I was beginning to get into C1 in 2003-2004, I really appreciated the archive sites like TazzMann's CREATUREs UNIVERSE and Norntropolis - it helped me feel a part of the wider community (not mattering that all my downloaded norns were from 1998 or even earlier).

Just post it anyway right before you leave. We will download the stuff and when the people who do not like this come we will have it. |

Sam, some of these addons will be very large in size and so can't be posted on file hosting sites. They'd need a domain/host of their own really. Lacota was trying to do the right thing by people here, by seeking their permission to host their work first. The general rule is that you don't host other people's COBs/agents/files anywhere without their consent. It's about trying to show some courtesy towards others ideally. |

I'm surprised and disappointed. :/
Thank you anyway for archiving those files Lacota, as even if they are inaccessible, I will feel better knowing they are at least preserved, as Creatures, and all of the content that made it what it was and is, will always maintain a dear place in my heart and past.
Thank you. |

I would have said yes if I could have, but nobody asked me.
I don't know if you'd asked everyone for help, or just the creators of the stuff.
So sorry!

nornloverian, lacota last asked for help gathering addons some time ago. I gather that lacota has asked the creators of some of the addons for permission to host the addons and the creators have declined.

Oh, I didn't know it was on a thread.
I thought she meant via PM.
Sorry.

In my opinion Lacota, I think you should host the files anyway. It is down to the authors own stupidity that they don't want their files archived, as they are denying a generation of the Creatures Community from their contributions. |

Sorry, the a at the end of your name made it sound like you were a she.
I have to say, I kinda side/agree with C-rex.
The only possible downside would be getting reported.
Also, I believe Lacota may believe that it'd best to respect other member's wishes.

As a follow up, I really wish I did have the time to sort out all the people who have said yes, who never replied and who said no.
Unfortunately, I have a full time job that keeps me pretty busy now (Damn being all grown up and having bills to pay >.> ).
Perhaps in future I may preen through it. as of currently however, I've just not got the time. |
